loss of power

I have a friend with an 89 camero with a 305 tbi, it has just started to lose power. at low rpm's it run normal but if you get on it there is nothing there. We changed the fuel filter, but havn't check the fuel pump flow or pressure yet. i couldn't fint a fitting to check the fuel pressure like i can on my tpi. we are going to do the basic plugs, wires, dist. cap but it feels like it is just starving for fuel. any ideas would help, thanks

Auto Zone sells a TBI fuel pressure guage kit for about $40. Just connect the T-fitting (supplied with the kit) where the rubber line meet the metal line.

Check your timing, and make sure that all your vacuum hoses are on, capped, and going to the right places. I jut figured that out on my own. Make sure there is a vacuum hose going from the front passenger side of the throttle body, back to the fuel pressure regulator right behind the throttle body. Thats what I learned. Good luck,

You didn't mention how many miles are on the car. I would check for a clogged cat too.

Well I believe it's about 140K, and that is possible i had that as a passing thought but i'll break out my infared temp gun and check the inlet and outlet temp. of the cat. as soon as he comes back over we will check the vacuum and timing. But it does act like something is plugged up or its starved for fuel, its not idling fast like it has a vacuum leak and its runns somth so the timing can't be off too much.

My carburated 305 does the same thing. If I mash it, it kinda loses power around 3k rpm. I have found more than 3 vacuum lines disconnected, so I know that's it. Does anyone have any chart or picture of the vacuum routing for an 84 Firebird?

I could benefit from this too. Mine is a 305 TBI, BTW.
