head bolt torque sequence?

i rebuilt the stock 305 heads and was wondering wat the spec torque sequence was

it would tell you in a haynes manual .. torque specs and sequence is the only thing those books are good for.

I dont know the torque specifications of the top of my head but I do know, that if you are looking at the head with the exhaust ports pointing at you, start with the bolt in the middle of the head at the top and swirl yourself out ward. Thats the way. ;) Hope that makes sense.

Don't forget to step torque them either. I usually go about 20, 40, 60, then finally 70-75ft/lbs.

The final torque is 65-68 ft/lbs. Sequence is as follows (attahed pic).

thanks, i got the intake manifold off, i spent more time labeling all those dam vacumm tupes and egr crap than anything else.

Yea im in the same boat, but in installing ported TPI heads with new intake.
I looked at the haynes manual and it says to torque them down at 65 ft lbs but other people tell me to torque them down at 70 or so which would be better?

if the new intake is aluminum .. dont over torque them. Go the rated route
