Eight Injectors, With Stock TBI ECM? I was just browsing through an old Hot Rod Magazine (August 2002), in which there was an article called; "New Hope For Aging SUV's"... Now, although this is not exactly Third Generation related, it still applies to all Throttle Body Injected vehicles, no? ;) For a little over $1000.00, you get yourself a streel legal kit.... that converts you're stock set-up (using you're stock TB, albeit now with a block off plate for the injectors, and stock computer and wiring), to a heavy breathing, eight injector piece. Here's some commentary; "Though the kit is complete, you'll need to upgrade the vehicle fuel system to supply the MPI system's 42-psi (at WOT, 35 in cruise mode) requirement. Stock pressure is at 15-psi. All the hoses and fittings are included, but not the pump, though in-tank pumps are offered seperately. These application specific pumps are sold seperately because including them in the kit would be cost prohibitive. Also, the stock computer chip must be replaced. Just fill out the enclosed chip information card, and mail it in. The company willburn you a chip to suit youre needs, and deliver it to you're door via UPS 'second day air' free of charge. The whole swap is an easy weekend job.... so long as you've got the pump, and chip details handled beforehand"... - Steve Magnante Interesting.... |

Along the same line, why not give yourself more future CFM options with this and an adapter plate. With a J/Y 7730 (or your preference) and wiring, along with an AutoProm, and you're ready to rock. Same concept, but quite a bit less expensive, and you'll still have the option of going with a 4-bbl throttle body (or even a carb) at a later date. |

I read somewhere that the TBI ECM couldn't run four injectors.... and yet, this Edelbrock unit runs eight with the stock ECM (albeit, with a different chip of course). But I agree, it's pretty expensive though. Edit: Okay, now I see why....because of the dual IAC & TPS. I can just imagine the headaches it would cause from the additional readings. Forgive me TBI guru's, as I'm brand spanking new to throttle body injection. :D |
Fixed the link above. Sorry 'bout that... |
You can run eight high impedence injectors (high resistence) with a tbi ecm, but you cannot run four low ipedence injectors (low resistence) with a tbi ecm. You can add a driver board to your tbi ecm to run four tbi injectors if you search the board it has been covered. Someone was selling them on hear somewhere. I have a buddy running a 383 TPI with his 95 TBI ecm so it stilled controlled the tranny. It does work fine though tuning has been a little tricky. We have been thinking about adding in a 7730 ecm to run the motor and leave the tbi ecm for the tranny though. |
