How high can I safely rev my motor? What potential do I have? I have a stock L05 with about 60k miles. I've yet to go full out WOT for more than a second or two and I want to make sure my transmission doesnt do anything funky in upper RPM ranges and allow my motor to over-rev. How should I set my rev limiter? I've always wondered and I think its time I just threw out this question. What can I get out of my EBL controlled TBI 350 with full bolt ons and still have it be a reliable daily driver? What about heads/cam/intake? Any chance of going mid 13s? I am definitely sticking with TBI. Lets assume I have a 3.42 posi, even though I have 2.73 open right now. |
13s are not at all out of the question. |
Injector Duty Cycle, Fuel Flow, and Valve springs are going to dictate redline. I have seen mild bolt-on L05s run out of fuel at 4,500 with the stock injectors/fuel pressure. On the otherhand, I was spinning my cammed but otherwise stock L05 longblock to 6,000 RPM on s regular basis. 5,000 rpm is well within limits and my non-valet rev-limit is now set at 5,500. My WOT 1-2 shift occurs around 5,350 or so. |
Good question. I run my tbi up t0 5500 no problems, and on a few occasions went to 6k when it was cold out. I am running stock heads/cam/fuel pump. I recently threw in an AL flywheel. That along with a carbon fiber shaft that I picked up used reduced my rotating mass significantly to spool the motor up faster and higher. Now I really need to dump the 3.42s to some 3.90s or 4.10s to get full benifit of the t56. I do question the stock tach. Had a friend that had an autometer and the stock tach together and they were off alot. |
