TBI spacer question Ive been told a throttle body spacer would give me more power out of my 91 RS with stock 305. they are not to spendy, around 50 bucks at Summit racing.com, but im just curious if anyone has installed one on their stock third gen and if they think it helped or not. Thanks |
Re: TBI spacer question ive had one on a 350 and really didnt notice a difference myself. i would just save your $50 and time and troubles of putting it on. u have to do slight modification but its not hard to do i just never seen any real difference. |
Re: TBI spacer question With those heads, there's really not much of anything that will help - save the cash for a 350 TBI or carb swap. The only thing you'll really "feel" is getting rear gears - and they work for any motor. Don't spend cash on the 305 UNLESS it will later transfer to a 350 (like rear gears, exhaust, etc.). |
Re: TBI spacer question yup dont wase you rtime or money on it. do an exhaust upgrade, headers-back. that and a nice rear gear swap will make ya happy. |
Re: TBI spacer question There are some tech writeups on this website and I think they cover the TBI spacer and other TBI tricks, may want to read them first. https://www.thirdgen.org/technical-articles then scroll down. |
Re: TBI spacer question Thanks, kinda what i suspected. Looks like ill just leave it alone and be happy with my 17mpg and no power:) |
Re: TBI spacer question your only getting 17 mpg? You have something wrong. You should be pulling at least 20. 23-28 is commonplace for these cars. Is she running good? |
Re: TBI spacer question i agree with all of the above . but , i did a little research they don't much , the entire TBI spacer that is . what does/has seemed to work for me is the " INJECTOR POD SPACER " . it raises the injectors 1/4-5/16" higher , i swear i felt a small improvment . my day to day mileage went up a bit , throttle response felt a bit more crisp . now i am a bit anal about keeping a good tune on my car . anyway i'm not looking for a debate , i am just telling my thoughts on what i have done . BTW no clearance problems with stock air filter . good luck , cheers . |
Re: TBI spacer question im sure i could pull better mileage, my daily driver before the camaro was an 81 chevy pickup, 400hp 454, built th400, 4.56 posi. so i tend to push the 305 a little hard:) |
Re: TBI spacer question ahhh that kind of makes sense then...drive her easy! |
Re: TBI spacer question The TBI spacer is really only ideal for higher RPM power or frequent WOT. Not worth it with a stock 305 motor. |

Re: TBI spacer question Yeah and for an engine where cylinder heads doesnt flow well over 5000 rpms. its better to keep the low end torque. |
