TBI vs Holley Carb So I am going to finally get around to playing with something I have been wanting to do for a while. I have had my van TPI forever and a day and ready to make the van more strip oriented. I don't drive it much on the street and no longer have to pass a dyno emissions test. I have a nice little 6" rod 383 in the van with my heavily ported 906 vortecs on it. It has a custom grind Reed cam in it, but I still have a GM 846 and 847 laying around. I will be opening up the exhaust and ditching my flowmaster 40s for magnaflow straight through mufflers. I will put the dual cut-outs before the muffler. The edelbrock TPI base will be coming off along with the SLP runners. In their place I am going to put the Edelbrock Victor Jr 4bbl Vortec intake. For the TBI I have a marine TBI from a 375 HP 502 BBC and matching squarebore adapter. For a carb I have a Holley 600 cfm with a TPS I attached in place of the choke. I will be doing some track runs using both the BBC TBI and the Holley 4-bbl carb. For fairness I will be tweaking both of them and use the same ignition and transmission settings for both. Should be interesting when I get around to doing it all. The transmission is a 2,600 stalled stock rebuild 4L60E with a Transgo HDII shift kit, controlled by the 427 TBI PCM. My 1-2 shift will likely be in the 6,500 rpm range and 2-3 in the 6,250 range. With the 3.08 gears I will trap the 1/8 mile at roughly 75-80 mph and a mere 5,500 rpm in 2nd. I have some interesting approaches to try and you guys may like them. I will keep you'll posted. I still have this gut feeling the Marine TBI is going to hand the carb its venturis. I will also be stripping the van from 5,500 lbs down to a mere 4,500 lbs by removing the whole conversion interior, the rear a/c unit that has not been hooked up the past two years carpeting, etc. It will basically be a metal box with conversion van windows and running boards. Eventually I will stuff the rear-end with 4.56s and some form of locker. Should be fun beating these so called racecars:waveman: I want an 7.99 pass out of this beast on motor and be able to drive it home with the a/c blasting. |
Re: TBI vs Holley Carb I am interested in what you can do with the TBI. I have always dug your posts here and on the fullsize chevy sites. |
Re: TBI vs Holley Carb Awesome. I'd like to see this done and see the info. Keep the TBI alive! post up the info as soon as you can Fast |
