Reset ECU Now Wont Start

Ok everyone I have searched and searched and haven't found anything similar to my case.

Car was running rich and on cold starts would hesitate for a minute or so. I decided today to reset ECU and also filled up an almost empty tank with 93 octane.

Disconnected the negative battery cable for about a minute, reconnected and car started first try then quickly sputtered and stalled. Now the motor cranks I have spark and fuel but will not start. I don't have access to a vacuum gauge but I don't see how resetting the ECU would cause a vacuum leak bad enough to prevent starting..

Any insight is appreciated.

UPDATE
So I have narrowed it down to the engine getting flooded. Disconnected the fuel pump fuse and the car started and ran for about 10 seconds before stalling out due to no power to the fuel pump. If I try to replace the fuse while the car is running the fuel flow almost instantly floods it out.

What would cause the system to run so rich it floods out?

UPDATE 2

After pulling the TPS sensor and cleaning out some dirt and junk I was able to get the car started and running. Still runs rich, but the injector funnel is nice and tight not gushing wide open like at first.

I was able to pull a code after running a few minutes Code 15 - Coolant Sensor

Fix the CTS and the engine will stop flooding. Likely need both the sensor and connector for it.

Thanks RBob. I plan on getting to the parts store today and taking care of it. Just seems strange that it only does it at cold starts.

If temp sensor was bad shouldn't it flood every time assuming the sensor is reading too cold?

Re: Reset ECU Now Wont Start

Two things that can cause it not to flood once warmed up. If the ECM sees the CTS at either end (open or shorted) of the proper range, it will use a default value in place of the wrong sensor value. This can also set code 15 (open).

The reason I mentioned the connector is that they tend to corrode, becoming intermittent. So at times the reported temperature can be close to actual. While at other times it can be far off from the correct temperature.

RBob.

Changed the CST and reset codes. Let the motor cool down completely and it fired right up, runs like a top. Check code is gone and it seems to have leaned out considerably.

Thanks RBob
