Anybody daily drive their TBI thirdgen Kinda curious how many people on here still daily drive their thirdgens. Ive been told on multiple occasions that these cars are not reliable and I seem to disagree. Like any vehicle proper maintenance is key and you will be fine. I live in NJ and I drive mine everywhere :burnout::driving: https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.thi...22a80ac834.jpg Manalapan NJ- hometown https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.thi...4a7551b0ec.jpg Lake Zurich , IL Thirdgen Expo https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.thi...2d32855292.jpg Brooklyn NY https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.thi...92dd4caeed.jpg Carlisle PA https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.thi...2806983118.jpg Ocean City MD |

Re: Anybody daily drive their TBI thirdgen I have driven mime daily for over 10 years now. I paid $500.00 for it and it needed = Paint , a fuel pump ,water pump , power steering unit ,new steering column/ VATS module ,intake manifold gasket, front windshield ,new front bumper cover and lower valance, new rear hatch and motor, some of the interior including front seats, head liner ,door skins. ,center consul ,etc., etc. I have also replaced almost every exterior engine component including all sensors and senders. Runs like a champ now. 10 years of hard but fulfilling work so far. http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/800...911/eZCMsv.jpg http://imagizer.imageshack.us/v2/102...905/mZWakA.jpg |
Re: Anybody daily drive their TBI thirdgen https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.thi...2ff7017e31.jpg I drive mine every day. Little issues crop up...considering it is almost 25 yrs old now I would say its reliable. |
Re: Anybody daily drive their TBI thirdgen I drive my thirdgen every day on the regular. Still get about 25mpg highway with the aftermarket gears - car runs like a champ. |

Re: Anybody daily drive their TBI thirdgen Hey brother I have daily driven mine in the past but not for years, I even daily drove my 69 in my early 20s |
Re: Anybody daily drive their TBI thirdgen I really like the wheels on your Formula. Nice color combo and tasteful mods. |
Re: Anybody daily drive their TBI thirdgen https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.thi...b757f04fa.jpeg Coming in late as usual.. I daily drove my 91 tbi from highschool till this summer when I got a little excited decided to go out Honda killing without checking my oil and gave her a mild case of rod knock. Now I'm daily driving my 87 TA until I find the time to fix my baby. As for reliability I decided to purple power my engine bay and wiped out every sensor on the top end of the engine.. Still drove fine just had to use ether on the first morning startup every day. Now if the car has VATS that's another can of worms usually involving being 5 mins late to work when it rains. So that's about 5 years of daily driving a used and abused tbi car even in the snow and ice and a vow to continue once I get her running right again. |
Re: Anybody daily drive their TBI thirdgen When I had my '91 RS about 8 years ago, it was my daily driver. And cold driveability was far better than any carburetor I ever drove, even the CCC QJ. So now that my '86 Camaro is non-running during the engine swap, I'm buying a '91 'bird LO3 / T5 to be my daily driver all winter. Daily-driving a TBI V8 third-gen? YES! |
Re: Anybody daily drive their TBI thirdgen I daily my TPI.. but would not hesitate to do the same with a TBI setup. |
Re: Anybody daily drive their TBI thirdgen I have been daily driving my '91 GTA since I bought it in '99, although it is a TPI and not a TBI as stated in the title. For three years, prior to the GTA, I daily drove my '88 Formula that had TBI. Now, I switch back and forth between the GTA and my new-to-me '92 T/A convertible (w/TPI). I've had my issues from time-to-time, but regular maintenance and actually paying attention to the car prevent any catastrophic issues. |
Re: Anybody daily drive their TBI thirdgen I swap between my 77 Vette, and my 92 RS during the spring, summer, and fall. Both get stored in the winter. |

Re: Anybody daily drive their TBI thirdgen 91 RS TBI. I daily it, but put it away for winter as I don't want rust ruining it. |
Re: Anybody daily drive their TBI thirdgen During the winter as long as the roads are dry I will drive mine. granted it has not snowed recently. |
Re: Anybody daily drive their TBI thirdgen Well i just totaled my daily driver last night coming home from work..... Back to the third gen. |
Re: Anybody daily drive their TBI thirdgen I had a '92 Caprice wagon with the 305 TBI. I put 60k miles on it and the only engine related repairs were an ignition module and an upper radiator hose. That best ratio of miles per repairs I have had for any vehicle, including Hondas and Toyotas. Now I have my Camaro 305 TBI and a Suburban with the 350 TBI. I have a company vehicle so I don't drive either a ton, but they both seem to be reliable for their age. |
