oil dipstick tube installation problem! help!

So when i was trying to remove the nut that was rusted onto the exhaust manifold bolt for the oildipstick tube, needless to say somehow along the way the tube got snapped right at the base where it goes into the engine block. was doing a different job then, i think the head gaskets. well, i was trying to find one at a local store, the only one i found was not even the right one though they sell it like it is... the bottom jsut doesnt fit into the engine block. apparently the base of the original is narrower in diameter when it fits in.. well i was able to get a piece of rubber hose, some clamps and rig up something that connects the bottom piece to the new (but still not right part) top piece so I could use a new nut to screw it onto the exhaust manifold bolt. . even though its still in tact, I still wanted to get the right peice that is all one piece.. so I found one online, suppose to be a GM al delco part that suppose to be an OEM one for my car. it was hard to tell, but the base part looked a bit too wide in the pic, but was unsure. called the local Gm dealership and the part # they gave me was the same for the part online, so I went ahead and bought the part. i got it and decide today since the weather was nice to try adn swap it out . well I could not get the end piece of the new one in the engine lock. it went in about 1 cm and then couldnt anymore, wasnt sure if I was bending it or not ... I know some people say they have to bend the tube to get it to work.. well didnt. i even cut the tip off and tried it again thise time I could not get ANY of it in the engine lock. just threw $80 aaway because I cant return it.. is there a special size one for my engine? I have the 305 TBI. I went and put the old (rigged) one back in and it went in perfectly.. i gave up for the night and left the old one it. just wanted a new one in that was all one piece... any ideas? did I even have the right part? or anyone else have this problem with a 305.. thanks!

Did you get the broken stub OUT of the engine block? I've seen a couple guys hammering dipstick tubes into the block without taking out the broken chunk. Didn't end well.

Check for a burr or ovalizing on the end of the new dipstick tube. I just slammed a tube into a 5.7 I rebuilt. Couldn't be easier--it practically fell into place. I chose to add some sealer to the tube where it goes through the block because it fit a bit loosely.
