1989 RS 2.8l V6 to 5.7l V8 TBI swap ECU/ECM question If this queation has been asnwered please direct me to the post. Situation: I'm wanting to install a 5.7l TBI from 1991 C1500 truck into a 1989 Camaro RS (Originally 2.8l, bought without engine) Question #1: Can I still reuse the original harness in the RS? I understand I will probley have to re-pin some things, but is it possible? If not then What a the best harness to search for? Question #2: What ECU/ECM can I use for the 5.7l set up? Could I reuse the trucks original ECU 1227747 in the RS? Or is there a better option out there? If anything is unclear let me know, thanks for the help In advance! |
Re: 1989 RS 2.8l V6 to 5.7l V8 TBI swap ECU/ECM question You might want to get a 89-92 tbi harness. the 747 will replace the 746. |
Re: 1989 RS 2.8l V6 to 5.7l V8 TBI swap ECU/ECM question Are you changing the transmission too? The 2.8L trans isn't going to bolt to the back of a 5.7L. |
Re: 1989 RS 2.8l V6 to 5.7l V8 TBI swap ECU/ECM question Tuned performance, so you saying get a harness from another camaro that runs TBI in it and use the 747 ECU from the 91 truck?? Sorry need some clarification on that one.... As far as the tranny goes, I was planning on using the RS tranny. But I haven't looked into if it would bolt on or not. |
Re: 1989 RS 2.8l V6 to 5.7l V8 TBI swap ECU/ECM question It has a 60 degree bolt pattern on it. you will have to source a 700r4 with a 90 degree pattern. the v6 700r4s typically have less clutches in the 3/4 clutch stackup. |
