Head pin
 

This is for my 1991 corvette with alu heads.

On my block there whas 4 pins ,2 on each side of the block ( one at the front and on at the rear on each side). That is used to hold the head gasget in place, and to guide the heads during installation.
Now, I lost 2 of this pins so I hade only one pin on each side when I installed my gasget and heads.
Could this be a probleme? Im little worried about alignment now after I have installed them.
I whas very carful with the alignment when I isntalled them, but annyway?

please tell me im not have to tear it apart again :(

I don't think it should be a problem... you really only need 2 pins to line anything up so long as the gasket is fairly stiff and doesn't move around too much when you stick stuff on top it...

When you torque it down it should line everything up anyway.. the pins are just for the initial line up right?

well I only got 1 pin on each side. So the gasget could tilt som upp and down but not back and forth ( if you understand what i mean ). If you hade 2 pins on both sides the gasget couldent move ehiter upp and down or back and forth ( like it whas stock ).
So now im a bit worried :(

I thought you were just refering to one side...

could be a problem.. but if you were careful when you installed them it still shouldn't be a problem... it's not lile they gonna move around while you bolt it down..

not the header, the head gasket. it shouldn't be much of a problem, i know guys running no pins without problems. go enjoy your car man.

wee so it should be ok then? When I isntalled my heads I "Lifted" the heads with my hands and tighten the bolts by hand all the way in so there whas no binding. Then I torqued them step by step.

I really dont whant to tear it down again ..

I don't see any reason why it should be a problem..

but you seem to have some paranoia about it...

if you gonna be paranoid, go get 2 more pins, take it apart and do it again.... if you gonna believe us (ie stop asking if it's gonna be ok after 3 of us have said it'll be fine) then leave it...

With a stock head gasket, you shouldn't have any problems. With a shim-type gasket, you may have shifting and leakage. Once a stock gasket survives a heating cycle, it should seal down pretty well. Did the original gaskets peel off cleanly when you pulled the heads, or did they stick? Sleep on that.

the old head gasget "peel off cleanly". ANd im using a stock head gasget..
