Fluctuating tachometer needle, and car choking and sputtering

Big thank you's for everyone who has read and responded to my previous posts.

I have a 1982 Pontiac T/A it has a 350ci 1978 camaro engine installed and it just passed a 1000 miles. It also has a new edelbrock 600cfm carburetor #1400.

I changed the air filter about a month ago but I haven't changed the oil or the oil filter yet. The other day I went about 80mph and after I came to a stop at a light when I proceeded to drive again, the car started choking and sputtering really badly. Even now the tachometer is going crazy when I start the car. I also took a look at the air filter and its as black as when I replaced it and the carburetor is pretty black as well.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions on how to handle this situation? Any help is always appreciated.

Its running realy rich. Check your idle mixture screws. If it is running rich once it is above idle you will need to re jet the carb.
