New engine block rust inhibitor?
 

I got my new engine block i yesterday from GMPP. We got it out of the crate and onto the engine stand, and then promptly covered it with an engine back and sealed it. The block seemed to have already been dipped in oil or something, but I'm wondering if this will be enough protection since I expect my project to last no less than 3 months. Do you guys use some kind of spray to protect the block, or will this be enough? Thanks in advance.:thanks:

If their coating has kept it from rusting this long then it's probably fine for another 3 months.

You can paint it if you like. Now would be a good time. Just leave oil (or reapply) onto the bearings areas and cylinder walls. Pretty much anywhere not going to see paint.

Yeah I was thinking I may need to paint it, since it'll more than likely rust in the car after a few thousand miles. What would you recommend using to remove the oil from the outside of the block? I thought about wiping it down with lint-free towels, but I'm afraid the oil residue will cause the paint to peel.

use some engine degreaser, and spray it, scrub it, rinse it off. Castrol superclean is also really good.
Then a final cleaning with brake-kleen or acetone, laquer thinner, alcohol, etc. Then primer it, and paint it. Tremclad makes some good stuff that'll work for that, VHT, etc.
