Crane Compucam/P'max 2032 prep..? Guys, My grandad and myself will be stabbin' in the new Crane cam i got for the IROC-Z. Crave recommends an AFPR to avoid possible lean conditions... If you have a 2032 in your L98, what issues did you encounter, if any? Anyone have any advice as to what issues may arise when it goes in? Also, i'm prob getting the setup to burn my own proms in the future, so i will eventually be looking for a great tune with the prom.. Thanks! |
Re: Crane Compucam/P'max 2032 prep..? Are you installing the matching valve springs? I ask becuase the recommended springs (96802) may not fit your stock heads without some work. They recommend an installed height of 1.75" when used with their roller cams. Your stock heads MIGHT hit that number, but might not. Usually you'll be a little shorter than that with stock valves, retainers and locks. Note that these springs are a LOT stronger than stock, despite being stock diameter. Read: don't try to use stock springs with this cam if you want it to work right. Tuning issues you already know you'll have some work to do there. |

Re: Crane Compucam/P'max 2032 prep..? well my car should be done around dec 18... so i think you will beat me to it.... but i will have long tubes and a full 3 inch catback and better intake to support the cam.... hopefully it will sound alittle choppy or lopey..... |

Re: Crane Compucam/P'max 2032 prep..? Righto, cam's in! My thoughts so far: Idle - barely noticeable chop. Performance - Can just notice the powerband is higher. Seems to pull a lil harder in midrange, and pulls a bit better up top. This is my first cam swap, so i didnt know what to expect. Plus it needs to be said that the car's tune is way off (rich as, see my other post - "horrendous spark plug buildup"). Hopefully when i get the tune sorted it'll run cleaner and have more bark. Before you install it, you may need to grind a 1/4" off the cam gear locating pin on the front end of the cam. Its longer than stock and makes it very difficult to get the timing gear on. |

Re: Crane Compucam/P'max 2032 prep..? Stock exhaust with a cutout opposite the fuel filter towards the back, and shorty flowtech headers. Sorry, no vids. Idle is a little choppier than stock. I drove it around again today, and there is a noticeble increase in midrange to top end torque. Nice! Perhaps because i have stock catback on the choppiness is not that noticable. Maybe with a 3" catback it would be more noticeable... |
