oh oh.. is this a big problem

I think I found the reason for my valve train woes and I am looking for some opinions.

A few years ago when the comp cams retro fit lifters and cams were introduced I bought a set. I finally got to installing them last year and I have had nothing but problems with my valve train as far as getting engine to produce power, nasty ticking sounds and squeeking.

In looking into what the cause could be I noticed comp cams makes a distinction between the retro fit lifter for use in a block not set up originally for roller cam and one that is.

I know my engine block came from a truck and had provisions for a roller set up but used a flat tappet cam.

I have the 853-16 lifters in this block . . . is this a problem?

thank you

Jeff

Could be....

The later "modified" blocks have taller lifter bore bosses. The link bars on some "retrofit" roller lifters may hit the top of some of the lifter bores, in some of those "different" blocks. That's what the "new" "special" "retrofit" roller lifters are all about; they're taller, and the link bar sits up higher, to miss the extra metal in the goofy-fied block.

So yeah, that could easily be causing all sorts of bizarre behaviors, from the lifters hanging up in the bores some random distance above the cam base circle.
