Car has no power What are some things that I should look into for fixing the problem that my car has (very slow, sluggish). It is a 305 TPI, automatic, and it has a cam in it (Comp Cams 260/260 duration .444.444 lift 112 LSA). I get trouble code 24 (Vehicle Speed Sensor) while driving. The car is very sluggish, doesnt make the power that it should be making, and has bad throttle response. If you are leaving from a stop and give it too much gas the car will stall. And sometimes on start-up when it is cold, it will stall unless you step on the gas. What should I need to fix this? Could the car need the chip reprogrammed? |
Re: Car has no power any ideas? |
Re: Car has no power I think maybe try a new chip if you have the stock one. Possibly vacuum leaks, timing, or maybe any number of the basics. I don't think the vss is the problem.... I had a vss bypass to get to a decent speed, and it never affected performance. |
Re: Car has no power [joking] a shotage of 45+ cubes [joking]. if there are no vac leaks, timing off, fuel delivery issues, etc. i would definietly say there is a tuning issue. |
Re: Car has no power Another thing I forgot to mention is that the motor is very slow reving. |
Re: Car has no power the powerband on that cam starts at 1500. if you are auto a little bit higher stall (1800-2000)may help off of the line if thats what you mean by slow reving. if that isnt what you meant by slow revving, define what you mean... slow revving in neutral or with the clutch in? slow while in gear? |
Re: Car has no power By slow reving I mean that if you were to sit there and try to rev the car up, it is very slow to rev up. |
Re: Car has no power OK, well I just checked the timing and it is about 10 degrees advanced. |
Re: Car has no power What could cause this "slow reving" that I was talking about? |
Re: Car has no power And also, when I took a look at the chip today in the computer I noticed that it had a hypertech performance chip in it if that makes anything relate to my problem. |
Re: Car has no power Stll sounds like timming. plugs look ok? |
Re: Car has no power The plugs have carbon build up on them but are still pretty new. |
Re: Car has no power take a pic of one or all of those plugs,, is it speed density or maf? what color spark are you getting? whats your fuel pressure on the rail? When you set the timing did you unplug the wire on the firewall? any noises,,ticking nocking sqwealing ? |
Re: Car has no power The plugs are getting a strong blue spark. I took a couple of them out (picture below). The car is a MAF car. The timing was done with the wire unplugged and when I checked the timing it was at about 10 degrees advanced. Im not sure what the fuel pressure is (dont have a gauge to measure with). I dont notice any noises when the car is running either. http://s214.photobucket.com/albums/c...t=DSC03345.jpg |
Re: Car has no power the plugs on the left look like your burning oil and the ones on the right look like there not burning anything,,, they should all have a golden brown color with a small amount of carbon build up, not as much as yours. the driver side plugs are bright white, those injectors maybe stuck closed, I highly recommend having a service center run fuel cleaner through your fuel rails,, another sign you have blow by or leaking valve stem seals is what looks to be oil in your threads. |
Re: Car has no power I put brand new valve stem seals in it, but still do get the occasional smoke on start up. |
Re: Car has no power Did this problem start right after the cam swap? Just a thought here but are you sure the valves are adjusted right. If the rockers are not adjusted right maybe the valves are not opening enough or(bc you day slow reving) maybe they are not closing all the way? Just thought of this to start at the valves for the cylinders that the plugs look like they are not firing that wanab03ss was talking about. |
Re: Car has no power If the valve seals ae new than your rings could be shot, but the spark plugs on the right still have almost no color on em, your injectors may be stuck .. take a screwdriver, put the handle to your ear and the flat head end on the injector , listen for ticking. They should all have a steady ticking sound. |
Re: Car has no power I never drove the car before the cam swap. Ill try the things you mentioned next. |
Re: Car has no power I would replace the plugs, |
Re: Car has no power How long has it been since a full tune up? |
Re: Car has no power Its got a newer fuel filter, new cap, rotor, plugs and wires also. |
Re: Car has no power Okay, so your getting spark and air, atleast 2 of your plugs look like nothing is burning in your cylinder. Im leaning towards injectors( send em to cruzin performance) Rich is a good guy and hell tell ya if there good or not and fix em if possible for a very very fair price. |
