SPARK PLUGS COVERED IN FUEL HI, I took out 4 of my spark plugs (2 from each side) and saw that they were covered in fuel. One was really bad, wet, and two where not as wet, and one wasn't wet, but had a very strong gas smell. All 4 plugs had fuel in the threads of the plug. Does this mean the fuel injector are stuck open? Right now the car doesn't stay running, once you start it. The last few times it was running, it was running really rich! |
Re: SPARK PLUGS COVERED IN FUEL if you have a guage for thee fuel pressure start the car get the pressure up to normal 36-40 and watch it for a few minutes see if it goes down another way is to run the car till its somewhat hot then shut it off and open the throttle body if the injectors are leaking you may hear them pissing out cooling the cylinders |

Re: SPARK PLUGS COVERED IN FUEL Or you could do it the easy way and ohm out the injectors. 14-16ohms each is normal. Any lower and thats your leaky one. |
Re: SPARK PLUGS COVERED IN FUEL Right now the car is not running. Once it starts, it stalls right away. Can I test the injectors when the car isn't running? Check the ohm if it's not on. |
Re: SPARK PLUGS COVERED IN FUEL Yes, you can do it without the engine running. Just pull the injector connector off, then put a multimeter lead on each of the INJECTOR pins, not the CONNECTOR pins. If you get less than 14 ohms, (should be 15) then swap that injector. One of mine is reading 9 ohms and its causing a noticeable rough idle. |
Re: SPARK PLUGS COVERED IN FUEL ohming doesnt mean a thing mhy car sat for years and all the injectors ohmd out perfect but were all sticking |

Re: SPARK PLUGS COVERED IN FUEL I tested the each injector with a volt meter and I got a steady 14.4 - 14.5 ohm from each one! The injectors are about 3 years old, and they are Accel 24lb. My car also has a cold start injector. Can those things get stuck open? What should the ohms be for the cold start? I will put the old spark plugs back in the car. Since the ones in the car are messed up! (covered in fuel) See if it stays running! |
Re: SPARK PLUGS COVERED IN FUEL Could a bad ignition system cause this? No spark to burn off gas??? |
Re: SPARK PLUGS COVERED IN FUEL Are you actually getting spark to the cylinders? |
Re: SPARK PLUGS COVERED IN FUEL Yes, I just checked for spark, and there is spark. So I don't think it's my ignition system. Car starts, and stalls right away? Also I put my old plugs in and still the same thing. All my plugs where black and smell like gas. An they where new too. So I put the old ones in just to see if any difference. |
Re: SPARK PLUGS COVERED IN FUEL Youre obviously getting too much gas into the cylinders. Youre running the right size injectors for the 350. Hows your compression? Have you done a check on each cylinder? Loss of compression could cause the misture not to light properly, leaving a lot of gas in the cylinder. |
