HELP, Oil leak coming from distributor

Just pulled my distributor after finding that my oil leak was coming from around that area and I found that I have oil in the cap as well as the entire electronics area. Does this mean I have too much crankcase pressure or do I have to replace the distributor shaft assembly?

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

John

Re: HELP, Oil leak coming from distributor

Not necessarily although it is preventative maintenance to replace your PCV valve on occasion.
Most of the time the oil leak at the back of the engine comes from the block to intake manifold china wall. That requires a couple of hours of work to seal.
On rare occasions it's your distributor gasket that's leaking. 20 minutes to fix.

Re: HELP, Oil leak coming from distributor

Thanks for the info, I checked the pcv and it was still rattling, but then I thought that since I just bought the car that the previous owner or the previous previous owner may have put a high volume oil pump in it. I pulled the distributor shaft and assembly that had no name brand marking on it, and put a oem napa distributor assembly in its place. I was reading more on the subject and have found that you can drill 1/4 holes into the shaft to alleviate oil being pushed too far up the distributor shaft. I havent pulled the cap off yet to see if the problem is recurring but I hope that this fixed it!

Thanks again,

John M.
