[HELP] Relay rebooting itself, noisy. Hi ! i´ve started my car this evening and i heard a horrible noise in the cockpit but sounds like it was on the engine bay, i opened the hood and i´ve found a relay (i suppose it is related to the cooling-fan system) constantly rebooting and doing a nose, even if you touch it you feel like mini-hits in his interior. it´s this: http://www.picamatic.com/show/2009/1...1_1024x768.JPG Could anyone tell me what´s his tech name to buy it up from Rockauto? (I´ve wondered that it could be this : ACDELCO Part # 158240 {#14089936, 14103304} RELAY,FAN CONT 5-PIN OVAL SHAPE ) https://info.rockauto.com/getimage/g...US/15-8240.jpg Do anyone of you guys have a problem like this any? Could be solved changing only that relay? (i even dont have the S.E.S lighted up, only lights up when doing contact you know, test mode) Thanks a million in advance ;) |
Re: [HELP] Relay rebooting itself, noisy. Yep, that's the fan relay, the one you found look like the correct replacement one. Does the relay get hot? Unplug it and check the connectors for corrosion, it could just be a bad connection. |

Re: [HELP] Relay rebooting itself, noisy. Well, as long as it's not getting super hot, like hot enough to burn your hand, then it's probably fine. I had a similar problem, my fan motors were worn out, and drawing way too much current, causing the fan relay to get extremely hot and act flaky. I wound up burning up a fan relay, and melting the relay connector. Had to solder a new one on from a donor car. |

Its so curious how this flaw works... the relay gets rebooting seldom when the car is once started up, bit hot, in first 5 mins it dont operate... then, when the car is over 1/4 of temp, it gets rebooting always "kra kra kra kra kra" but dont gets hot. Then, when the car reachs the 220F limit (1/2 of temp) the Fan starts to operate and the relay shuts up. I have done to it a extensive cleaning in the contacts, but it´s still like this. I hope that replacing the relay with that one from rockauto will solve the things. I´ve seen lots of relays and now im burned off, i dont know really which one will be a good replacement one for it. I´ve seen : AIRTEX Part # 1R1246 FOUR SEASONS Part # 35895 ACDELCO Part # 158240 They aparently looks the same: http://info.rockauto.com/getimage/ge...sons/35895.jpghttp://info.rockauto.com/getimage/ge...tex/1R1246.jpghttp://info.rockauto.com/getimage/ge...US/15-8240.jpg Could someone give me a hand? |
Re: [HELP] Relay rebooting itself, noisy. If anyone needs this for refference, i solved the issue, it was the Radiator Fan Switch, that was sending bad the signal. I changed it and no problems. |

Re: [HELP] Relay rebooting itself, noisy. My setup right now its: - Acdelco stock radiator fan switch. - Dual fan Trans am stock setup, one starts at 220F, the working average temp is 180F right now because i changed the thermostat of stock (195F) - Airtex Radiator fan Relay. |
Re: [HELP] Relay rebooting itself, noisy. Bump... :( I think really that changing the Radiator Fan Swich the reboots of the relay will be gone, but it dont has be like that. I changed the thermostat to a 180F and the relay still rebooting... Any Help? |

Both two are from Rockauto, one is an Aiptex, another one is an ACDELCO. Both new. I even try to clean the contacts doing my best as Ward said, but no improvements. It could be the electronic connector, i will dismount it to see if i improve a bit. OK, but why don't u rule out 1 thing at the time ???? U changed the switch, now change the relay and if that does not help ..its the wiring !!!! U can't check the wiring if u don't know for shure its not the relay .... :2cents: |

I´m telling you that i´ve change right now two new relays (even have a third that i supposed that it´s broken) and tried to change with the radiator fan switch because my mechanical told me that was this for sure... with no changes. I think right now it´s or Wiring or the connector itself. Oh, well i thought its still the old relay. If its new then yes...your right ! Sorry:thumbsup: |
Re: [HELP] Relay rebooting itself, noisy. Yesterday i tried to put the three relays that i have to see if there is any change. And the things got worse than ever... Before, when the relay reboots, when it comes to his top temp (215F-220F) it stops to reboot and the fan starts to operate. Yesterday, not. It continue rebooting and i was out of the car making pics with my camera, i were out of the car about 6 mins while the car was running and when i get into the car the relay still rebooting and having a temp on the gauge of 240F!!! i inmediately i put ON the AC Fan to refresh it and go in a highway over 20 mins... the temp get down and i put the car in the garage.. so angry. I´ve a revision with the mechanical in 30th Jan, but i still want to know why the F**K is doing this thing... |
