fuel pump help pleaaseeee

ok so my 89 305 is completely carb, and i was cleaning all the extra junk outta itcan i cut a rubber line in half near where the char canaster would be,and it wasnt spewing gass at first but a few days later i poped the hood and it was,so i corked it off thinking nothing of it,sure enough it burned my pump(i think) out i was just wondering if theres a check valve in the rubber hose,or somthing because i dont wanna leak gas or burn another fuel pump out

reason i belive pump died are it doesnt prime anymore, but the car still starts and drives for like a mile or so then quits im lost

Huh, guess that hose must have had a purpose after all.

Stick an open fuel filter on the end of the line.

The hose you cut - was it the 3rd fuel line?

On the driver side rail, there are 3 fuel lines - they are metal, all 3 turn upwards, and then the rubber lines connect to them just after they turn upwards. The one farthest forward towards the headlights - is that the one you cut?

If that's the one you cut, you need to route it under the car as it can leak gas an/or fumes on rare occasions and you dont want it spewing fumes/gas onto hot exhaust or an electrical spark under the hood.

Did you switch to a vented gas cap?

Are you using the stock in-tank pump and a return-style regulator? Or an external electric pump?

The fuel pump will not 'prime' anymore with the ECM gone from the carb swap.

well replaced the hose, and its still doing it,it drives fine for a mile or 2 then shuts down ,gas spews out of medium sized hose unless corked by hand, and fuel punp wont kick on for a few mins or so.my father in law thinks the lines may be cloged idk tho

Again - what kind of fuel pump? What kind of regulator? Vented cap?

There is a pressure release valve under the car, right where the fuel lines enter the gas tank (driver side) - maybe it's clogged or not working properly.

When you remove the gas cap, is there a big "whoosh" sound?

If you are using the stock intank fuel pump, and did not rewire the fuel pump to work with the key on, then the pump will not prime as it did originally - since that is a function of the ECM which you are no longer using. The pump will start to run however after the oil pressure sending unit (located above the oil filter) starts to see enough oil pressure (from the starter turning the motor over) to turn the pump on - the oil pressure sending unit in these cars was a backup circuit for the fuel pump, in the event that the ECM stopped functioning the pump would still pump fuel and the car would still limp home.

But again - until you give us some more info, it's impossible to help you.
