fuel problem

ok i have a 82 crossfire EFI engine, the car runs fine, expect for the fact that it runs rich and everytime i let off gas it lets of an obnoxious pop almost like a backfire, it was cool at first but it just is getting really annoying. i was told by a friend of mine to change out the injectors i just wanted to make sure thats what it is first before i spend a few hundred dollars for the same thing to happen. thanks

Is the SES light on? If so, get the codes the computer is setting.

I'd look to O2 sensor before injectors.

I'd also check plug wires, dist cap, rotor, plugs before injectors - ignition issue will cause backfiring. Are any of the plugs wet with gas? All plug wires & plugs firing? How long since cap/rotor/wires plugs been changed? How long since fuel filter change?

What's timing set at?

whats the SES light? i know the check engine light will come on and turn off every so often. it will only last about 10 seconds but i havent timed it. the plugs wire distributor and rotor are all knew i just never gaped the plugs forgot about it but the noise sounds like back firing, also i go through fuel like no tomorrow had a full tank now its at half now and i must have driven less than 10-15 miles maybe more granted i was hammering the gas but i think it to bw a little rediculas

You need to get a paperclip and follow:

ok thanks also i pulled the wires plug and distributor appart it all seems fine expect plugs in cylinders 1 and 3 have excess carbon build up and the plugs are literally brand new maybe 20 miles. also cylinder 5 the plug is very clean, thats all i had time to get to tonight was getting too late and too cold. any reason why it might be doing that tho?

Re: fuel problem

ok iv try that method with the pin and it doesnt seem to work i ran a pin from 6-12 key off, then key on and the service engine stays on like it normally would. i also noticed that it the computer hook up for the car is square not offset, and also there is 12 holes but only seems to be 6 working holes the rest look as if for show or just there
