Re: Freeze Plug

Super easy; just drive a screwdriver or punch into it, pry it out, and whap a new one in with a big socket or something. Sand around its edge to remove the plating where it is against the casting; use some kind of HARDENING sealer (I like the purple Permatex stuff), NOT silicone, all teh way around it; drive the plug just under flush, maybe .030" - .050" or so; and smear the sealer that the hole scrapes off of the plug around the edge of the plug to positively seal it.

Piece of cake. Shouldn't take but a minute or 2.

...if the engine was on a stand. While it's in the car, I foresee the access being so restricted that I wouldn't be very happy doing it...

Re: Freeze Plug

Nah, not a problem...

Once the engine is out, or the transmission out, whichever is easier for the particular plug, the car won't pose much of an obstacle. ;)

I would strongly suggest though, that if one has rusted through, the others, which have been subjected to the exact same conditions for the exact same length of time, will probably be in for all practicalpurposes the exact same state. Might as well do em all while you've got the motor out. Save yourself from having to pull it again next weekend to do the next one that happens to fail.

That's was my next question...the motor I and tranny are still in the car...how hard would it be to get to them. Sounds like a pain in the ***.

Ya, the plugs are super easy, pulling the engine kinda sucks... Good luck with that :)
