91 z28 - wont stay running! help!
 
in the past i had issues with the VATS and was able to get it working using the resistor trick.... 2 weeks ago the car would not start at all.... i took off the resistor to check ohms and it was still ok.... after putting back in the car now, it will start but will not stay running if i take the foot off the gas!

is the VATS system still a factor here that I am able to start the car? is this an IAC issue instead?

if it starts at all, I don't think it is a VATS issue, sounds like IAC. My 92 z28 does a similar thing. I am looking at the IAC as the culprit.

Is the timing correct on the car? Could also be something to do with idle air control valve or any of the air/idle sensors/valves

I once had a similar (but opposite) problem with this, but my car would start very rough and as soon as you gave it gas it would die. Turns out it was a bad KEY. After i replaced the key it started up and ran just fine. I then made the mistake of turning the car off and taking the key out (with my 90 firebird you must drive the car with the new key the moment you turn it on so it registers the key with the VATS, otherwise its a 1 time deal with the new key that i just got programmed for my car)

so i purchased a new IAC... but before i put it in the car i tried to start again.... sure enough, started with no issues... W T F ... lol...

i was also brave and drove it 15 miles to run an errand and back.... didn't have an issue.... maybe IAC was stuck? bah.... VATS still needs to be taken out...
