Old Farts Daily Driver > No Start? Tired of driving the Ole'Ladies stupid Grand Am> Help! I haven't put alot of time into research yet but started with the basics. This is where I'm at: 91 WS6/Bird LO3. She has always been very dependable but after a night of heavy rain no start? Checklist: Dizzy, plugs, wires and rotor new about 7 months ago. All dry, rain happened over a week ago besides I pulled all the plug wires at the dizzy and checked each one. Fuel pump relay connectors/plug still look brand new (no corrosion/not cooked) Replaced about 4 years ago? I have crank but throttle body injectors feel dry. Car starts for about 3 seconds only after putting gas down the throttle body. I have a sinking feeling the fuel pump is toast. havent yet pulled the feeder hose from the pump off to see if I have fuel but what my confusion is that sometimes I hear the pump come on and sometimes not. And when I do hear the pump I still can't get her to fire? Where is the E.C.M.???? Not sure if that's my issue but I can at least have it tested at Autozone. Might be the pump? Wish it was just the 15 Dollar Fuel pump relay...... Thanks > Mike |
Re: Old Farts Daily Driver > No Start? It is a fuel issue for sure, pump out ff clogged short in the injectors. I doubt the filter is clogged so my guess is the rain has gounded out the injectors. Or the rain had nothing to do with it and fuel pump failed. Turn key on and see what fuel pressure is. Check the schrader valve in the fuel rails looks like a tire valve if fuel pressure is where it should be then it is injector wiring likely. |

Re: Old Farts Daily Driver > No Start? Seeing that u said lo3 it does not have a Schrader valve. U have to get a proper fuel pressure kit to check it unfortunately. Do u still have spark? I believe the ICM tells the ecm its cranking to energize the fuel pump relay. Ud lose fuel pump and spark if that were the case. |

Re: Old Farts Daily Driver > No Start? Lol. I missed that. Have u checked that u have power at the pump connector? Its reachable from underneath. I just jump the relay then try to start. I'm also equipped as I see this stuff all day at work. Even if u have a spray at the throttle body doesn't mean Ur OK. I learned the hard way before I bought a master fuel injection test kit. Make sure u got juice at the purple wire behind the rear seat connector. |
Re: Old Farts Daily Driver > No Start? Or gray. Oh crap I haven't been back there in 2 years. Purple may be the sending unit wire. Lol |

Re: Old Farts Daily Driver > No Start? The issues our cars have are always popping up at the wrong time but are most of the time relatively easy to fix. I drive 34 miles each way to work so I know were u are coming from. Work Ur way thru this issue then see where u stand. I almost chopped mine up after a 3 months of failure 4 yrs ago. I'm a 75 hour a week mechanic so down time kills me. |
