Very recent oil leak, and extended Crank to start

1991 Camaro 3.1 auto. Never had a Starting issue until last week. noticed it right off the bat one day after work, it took 3 times longer to start. and its been that way since. and when it starts it chuggs a bit then Perks up and has the normal high Cold idle for a second and drops down and drives fine.

However, Ive noticed a Spot of oil in my parking spot, Had to of started last week. I looked, its coming from the top backside around the dist. Im not sure if its the dist, or the lower intake....... The Fuel pump is a bosch replaced last march with the fuel filter and injectors. New Plugs/wiresCap/rotor/ICM about a yr old..

Fuel Pressure regulator.... Not sure about that. I check for leaks but Nothing i could tell, sucked on the line, and can def. taste gas, but wasnt getting liquid. So im weary of it.......

Don't know about V6's but the V8's have oil pressure sensors on the oil gallery port behind the dist and they are known to leak with age. :(
Only way to confirm would be to clean the whole area and see where the fresh oil is coming from.

and isn't the oil pressure sensor tied directly to the fuel pump? The fuel pump won't turn on until the oil pressure gauge reads a certain PSI.

may be a bad oil pressure sensor

OP switch is wired in parallel with and independent to the pump relay
Allows the pump to run should the relay fail.
Only way the pump would not run is if both failed

As vetteoz has said , your fuel pump is fed power from two independent sources . If the relay has gone bad , you will get no 2 second prime with key on and the engine will have to crank till it builds oil pressure to run the pump . This could explain the delayed starting . The oil leak is likely a coincidental thing that may or may not have anything to do with the delayed starting . Tell me , does your car do the 2 second prime with the key in the on position ? Also , if your talking about sucking on the vacuum line going to the fuel pressure regulator , and your tasting even a hint of gas , your regulator IS leaking , just obviously not bad enough yet to allow you to get liquid gas through the vacuum line . Replace it now , before it gets bad enough to be pouring liquid gas into your manifold ......

I completely understand. So I go out this morning. unplug an injector, and unplugged the FPR to get to the injector. I shouldve plugged the FPR back in.... anyhow i put in a 194 bulb. Turn the key on, Fuel pump kicks on. as soon as i cranked the bulb flashed a few times and started right up. the oil leak, i gotta get a better look in there....

Anyone know anything about a cold start valve on the 3.1l?

You should start your own new thread instead of hijacking this one which is a about engine oil leaks ..........

Re: Very recent oil leak, and extended Crank to start

I hate searching posts. and having people discuss a issue but never tell the results.

So I clean the motor off. and i found the Oil leak. I am 98% sure its the Distributor gasket.....

I checked the Pickup coil- good 1.4v cranking.
Dist. cap and rotor clean hardly any Ionized bs.
however i yanked the EGR... the 3 little valves are somewhat loose i think it leaks a little bit.............. so i made a plate to block the Exhaust port.... WOW its a whole new car lol geeez. Idles 70%smoother and throttle response is def. noticeable. only one prob. it kicks the CEL light on now when highway cruising. O'well for now i guess. I drive 12miles to work. and 12 miles back. so not a big deal for now. But those are my results.
