383 Gas Mileage?

Ok I know this a stupid thing to ask because "gas mileage isn't supposed to matter" but I am still really curious on what my 85 would get if I put a 383 in it. 9.5:1 compression

With dart SHP heads (180cc/ 64cc), a roller cam (233/241 @0.50), weiand x-celrator intake (2000-6500), a holley 750 DP.

The transmission is a 700R4 with a non lockup 2200 stall and 3.73s in the rear on a 275/60/15

Also the car is gutted except two front cloth 4th gen seats.

Not much, maybe 15mpg if your lucky. Having no lockup and 3:73 gears is what will bring gas mileage down. I have a non lockup 700r4 and 3:70 gears and I was getting between 12-14 mpg. How well your carb is tuned will also make a difference.

Re: 383 Gas Mileage?

well it is a valid question for a street car.

My 383 got 12-13 mpg. Driving it spirited... I never checked mileage driving it normally.with a 700R4 non-lockup converter & 3.73 gears.

Pretty similar combo to yours, except I had projection 4Di.

So yes 12-13 mpg with a 15 gallon stock fuel tank = 180 mile driving range.
