Crank journal nick

Hey all,

When reinstalling my crank, it got nicked slightly by the edge of the piston rod. And yes, the bolts were covered with hose, so those didn't scratch it. There's just a small nick in the crank (a tiny gouge), can I put it back in the engine and button her up? I ran my finger over it and didn't feel any ridge or high spot. Getting a new crank or having it reground isn't an option since I need to have this car running for work. it's not going to be driven too hard since it's just my daily driver. Thoughts?

Your finger can't tell, but your fingernail can.

Drag your fingernail over the nick in all directions, if you feel ANY snag, then it needs polishing.

You can use 1500 grit sand paper and polish it if you are careful. Cut paper into a strip to fit journal, and sand even all the way around journal, not just the nick.

Then when you put it together, be damn sure you check that bearing clearance and use .001" bearing on that one IF needed
