Starter replacement recommendation?

Ok I am going to buy a new starter and in searching around on here and on JEGS and Summit Racing, I found this one:

http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS+Performan...10065/10002/-1

My car is ALL stock, no headers, etc. I just want a reliable starter. Does anyone have any experience with this starter on their 3rd gen??

thanks.

Those are good starters, a knock off of the hitachi/hamburgers starter.
I haven't use that starter on a thirdgen but have use a lt1 starter and it works well. Battery cable is a stretch.

So it will work but the factory battery cable will be tight? thanks!

More of a stock fit.

A good OE rebuild is fine functionally. You'll shed some weight off by replacing the stocker when you do. IMO the money is well spent just because you won't need rotator cuff surgery after replacing the stocker. They're heavy and kind of not fun to lift into place.

Yes, the oem one you listed is overpriced IMO.
I would get a lt1 starter they are lightweight, have tons or torque and priced around $100.

Oh trust me, I bought a new OEM from Advanced auto parts first. The solenoid was a 1/2 longer, and it was HEAVIER then the stock one. Returned it for my money back. This after trying to get it in, GEEZ!! arm is still sore.

Thanks, can you suggest a LT1 starter from JEGS or whomever please? I am not sure which one to get. Plus if I do go LT1 starter, do I need new bolts and worry about spacing?

Re: Starter replacement recommendation?

Ok so I am trying to put this starter in from JEGS from up above. There are 3 connections for the positive battery cable. On the ends that goes on the solenoid, the main one has a metal tip that comes off the ring facing to the front of the starter. Its small but I believe it is a lock type pin to keep the ring end from turning? Anyway I cant get the end flush with the solenoid. Do I need to break off this metal tip or bend it flat? thanks.

Re: Starter replacement recommendation?

The OE ring terminal had a tab that fit into a groove or notch on the solenoid, to make it more likely that the ... primates ... on the production line, could reliably put it on right. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poka-yoke

Other, non-OE, starters, may not have the notch for the tab to fit in.

Clip it off and instead, pay attention to what you're doing as you assemble it. You're probably better than the ... primates ... GM had working at their plants back then. (no offense to your dad or anything being as how I have kids that are most likely older than you, I just calls em like I sees em)
