connecting rod placement Hello, Just had a couple of Q's. I'm rebuilding a 305 LO3 motor. The crank was turned and 2 rods replaced because of a spun bearing. The shop that put the pistons on the rods did not mark any thing. Does it matter where the rods go. are they balanced or can the go on any cyl. also just to double check the larger beveled side of the rod where the bearing goes would go to the journal side right? |

That all comes into play as far as piston location, and what rod goes were, etc. If you had the crank ground, then you shouldn't have to worry about it as far as what rod was on what journal. If they ground it right, they should all be the same now. :) Also, were the rods resized on the big end? IE, did they change the rod bolts? Or use the old ones? You are right about the side of the rod that goes on the radius of the journal. The beveled side does. Otherwise the radiused edge of the crank would get dug into by the bearing. And that would be ikky. :( AJ |
thanks for the help...they are flattop speedpro cast pistons with 4 valve releifs.the rods were not resized because a cross hatch was still visable the 2 rods that were replaced were the ones that were spun. the rods all look the same with the exception of beveled edge for journal. all the pistons are marked for the front, and in right. |
And that would be ikky. Such language! And on a public forum, too! Anyway, this would be a great time to balance the rod/piston assemblies if you are ever going to. The differences in rod and piston masses might amaze you. |
