Vacuum lines
 

Cars giving me trouble to stay on & I recently found a vacuum that was not connected to anything at all I don't know if this could be causing the problem but it's torn and I want to replace only I don't know where it goes to or what its for. Can someone help me out I really need to get it back to its original condition.

What are your vehicle specs?

Try a vacuum diagram search, there are many that are threads on this that should give you a good idea

I did but I have not found anything yet and could you help me out I need to figure it out

And the vehicle is a 92 camaro rs 305 tbi

There's a big black plastic vacuum ball under the partition that the reservoir in the pic is sitting on. Check there

I tried fining it and I couldn't unless it doesn't have it but I'm not sure. Can you take a picture not too close so I can see it i looked all morning and did not see one

I'm having trouble keeping the car running. I recently switched out the injectors (305 tbi) and I thought it'd fix the problem of it turning off. Gas gets to them but as soon as I step on the gas to rev it, the car bogs and dies immediately then I have trouble starting it. Any ideas what it could be ? I'm thinking it might be an ignition problem I checked out the whole fuel system and it seems to be doing fine

Did you ever find the cannonball?

The 1992 Camaro is equipped with a cannonball -- otherwise known as the vacuum reservoir.

I guarantee your car won't run right if the vacuum line that connects to that reservoir is not connected to the reservoir. Without that connection, the intake is just sucking random air into it constantly. Your fuel/air ratio will never be right until you fix that.

The vapor recovery cannister sits on top of a sheet metal shelf under your hood. You can see the vapor recovery cannister easily. The cannonball is bolted to the UNDER side of that shelf, and you cannot see it unless you crawl under the car. The cannonball cannot be seen from above.

Checked the ball and found no line connected to it. There a was a small piece on it aso if the line tore off. What line goes connected to it ? Does anyone know

I have a tbi I guess I can look around for a another lose hose but it is missing one can I cap it off ?

And honestly I don't know if it does I have not been able to fully run the car. There's not many diagrams on the 305s so it's difficult to find one that tells me where these hoses go

what happens when the car is running and you block off the end of that hose with your finger? Will it run that long? Otherwise plug it and see how it runs
Check the thread I gave you a link to in post 17 above. Can you follow the hose from by the distributor to the ball?

Nothing changed, the car starts and it cranks for about 10 seconds then finally turns on but then shuts off right away

I may have not mentioned the car say for 8 years. I've already changed many parts out and installed new ones. I have yet to touch the distributor though which may be ****

Ah, have you drained all of that used-to-be usable gas and replaced it with newer fuel? I think you have much more than a vacuum leak problem. At least it tries to run, that's kind of a good sign

Yeah I installed a new tank and pump got out all the bad fuel, new hoses and radiator, new fuel filter oil filter water pump and injectors tps iac all of it. But I have not touched the dizzy also new plugs

Since it tries to run the distributor is probably OK unless the ignition module has a problem, but sitting shouldn't have hurt it. Did you clean out and rebuild the throttle body when you replaced the injectors? Like check the diaphragm in the fuel pressure regulator?

I actually rebuilt the tbi and got a new regulator for it. All new gaskets

I'm beginning to think it's an ignition problem and not a fuel, I've had some backfire through the manifold and I don't know why. One guy told me the timing could be off but I wouldn't know much about that, the car was running for a short time but it wasn't until I attempted to drive it that I noticed I couldn't surpass 3000 rpm and now it barely stays on

Is the distributor loose or has it been moved at all?. Might as well take out the ignition module and haul it down to Autozone and get it tested. If you do, have them test it two or three times if they will. It needs to heat up sometimes to start to fail. They'll do it for free. Maybe it has gotten corroded in there and damaged the grounding ability of the unit? Definitely worth a look

Well that's what my next move is then, I really appreciate the help, it's been an on going problem and I want the car to run. I'll let you know what I find and the results!

There should be an "Oil pressure switch" at the back of your block near the distributor, if its bad, or unplugged, it will prime the pump, long enough for you to start the engine and then the computer is waiting on some sort of engine oil pressure signal from that switch to keep the fuel pump running. Had this issue on a C4 Corvette, drove me nuts!

Would the fuel pump relay cause the vehicle to do what it's doing. I think the pump doesn't get enough power when the vehicle starts it does prime but I believe once the vehicle is on it stop pumping as much
