battery gauge reading way high

have a 2007 duramax with the LBZ. Last winter when it got cold the battery gauge in the cab was pegged at 19 so I took it to the chevy dealership and they said the alternator was good but the batteries were bad so they replaced them then a couple months later it happened again but a few days later it went away. Now the other day it got to like 40 degrees and did it again so I took it to the auto shop to have them test the alternator again but again it tested good and one of the batteries tested bad. I then took it home and checked them myself and when the truck is off they are at 12.5 and running they are at 14.5 so they are fine. Anyone have any idea what the deal is?

Nate , if your dashboard gauge is reading 19 volts but a known accurate voltmeter is measuring 14.5 at the battery when running then I'd say your dashboard gauge is doing what most of em do , giving inaccurate readings . Some read high , some read low , but I'd trust an accurate meter (such as a "Fluke" VOM , for instance) to tell me the real truth and if the readings differ then I'd likely disregard what the dash gauge says .

Now with that said , this is a board for 1982 through 1992 Chevy Camaro and Pontiac Firebird cars only , 1982/1992 being the third generation of the GM "F" body platform . All questions about any other makes/models are usually locked and the person is given directions to a forum more suited to their make/model of car , What in the Hell IS a "Duramax" anyway ?

It's funny , whenever I hear "third gen" I automatically think of our cars , without giving a thought that just about all car/truck models had several generations of design changes . I know I may sound picky here , but I truly don't think any other variant of our cars (first , second , fourth gen , etc) had quite the same good looking profile that our cars have
