Starter or battery or flexplate.

Okay so I’m currently having issues with a grinding noise I’m hearing under my hood. Close to where the starter is ... lemme tell the story lol

so leaving from work cranked my car up it sounded like a loud blender with nails in it. Never did this before. Tried driving home I ended up on the side of the road had to get towed ( all the lights were still working ) ... received new starter had it installed. At first my car wasn’t cranking just sounded dead ( clicks ) charged my battery. Drove to advanced auto parts had them check the battery alternator and starter. Passed their test.

Next day went out to my car it started it up and it made this low grinding noise still could drive it. Went out there this morning my car was dead completely. Got a jump. Started right up no grinding but the battery definitely needs to be changed. However could the battery cause my car to grind ? Silly question I know lol or could I be my flexplate. I have a video of the noise also. Please advise if you can.

Video would help if we can hear it clearly. Guessing a bad 'new' starter or the starter is shimmed improperly

;) I figured someone had to ask what kind of car it is , with a screen name like "AstroTT" maybe it's a chevy astro van , or maybe he just really likes the Jetson's dog ?

I know exactly what is wrong with it. Didnt even have to watch the video.

It's a Dodge Avenger and not a thirdgen Camaro or Firebird. Get that issue fixed and your starting problems should disappear.

Well I was giving the benefit of the doubt of it being a 82-92 firebird or camaro. Whoever put the starter in should be looking into whatever went wrong. Don't waste your time hoping the internet has an answer, just take it to mechanic or find another mode of transportation because it doesn't sound good.

Probably not going to get too many answers here because this board is dedicated to 82-92 Firebirds and Camaros but my guess based on what little I know about dodge 2.7L motors would be Timing chain tensioner

That's the problem. You need ask no farther here.

Anyone on a forum devoted EXCLUSIVELY to 82-92 Camaro & Firebird, which is NOT a generic auto "tech" Q&A site, could tell you that.

Get rid of that smarmy POS and get an actual CAR. Meanwhile find a Dodge Avenger forum and ask the people there for help.

No one can diagnose a noise problem over the internet. Either track it down yourself or else have it towed to a reputable repair shop.

Here's ^^^^ your problem. Those cars are notoriously trouble-prone, particularly with a history of engine and transmission issues. You'd do well to unload the car as soon as you get it repaired, and move on to something more reliable.

GL with the repair.
