Corvette owners may be taking a bus home

Two Americans may be taking a bus back home after York police seized their souped-up Corvettes and charged them with street racing.

An off-duty cop helped stop the two cars allegedly zipping down Hwy. 400 at 200 km/h Wednesday around 4 p.m. "If anyone witnessed this from Barrie down to Newmarket and across Hwy. 9 to Newmarket, please give us a call," Sgt. David Mitchell said.

The two black, modified Corvettes are likely worth $50,000 before any parts are added, Mitchell said.

Ontario Attorney-General Michael Bryant warned racers earlier this week the government will seize any car even suspected of street racing and send it to a compactor, but Mitchell said the Corvettes' fates are still up in the air.

William Henry Casey, 22, of Wilmington, Del., and Brandon William Edmundson, 23, of Peoria, Ariz., appeared in Newmarket court yesterday charged with dangerous driving and racing on a highway.

Two American Corvette drivers have court appearance today

Just days after a man was killed as a result of street racing on Highway 400, two people have been charged for allegedly doing the same thing.
A York Regional police officer on his way into work noticed two black Corvettes weaving in and out of traffic at speeds in upwards of 200 km/h around 4:30 p.m. yesterday.

Uniformed officers stopped both cars at Highway 9 and Yonge St. in Newmarket and arrested the drivers.

Police say since both cars were seized because they were modified.

William Henry Casey, 22, of Wilmington, Delaware and Brandon William Edmundson, 23, of Peoria, Arizona have each been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, racing a motor vehicle on a highway and operating a vehicle radar warning device.

Sent to the crusher even if it's 'suspected' of racing?
Kind of goes against the whole 'innocent until proven guilty'.

Hey thats canada for ya...i just read an article saying if they suspect your car is suped up for street racing that, they will seize and destroy it, even if your not racing, that bullshit!

Don't believe everything you read, I haven't heard anything about alberta cops picking on modified cars.

i've seen/heard of many impounded street raced cars.. but never crushed.

lots of modified cars around winnipeg.. what's the size of an original civic motor anyways? lol

but yeah.. that's maybe just backlash from people dying all the time on that hiway
