Accord/Stang GT

So this weekend i had a couple of races the first a 2002 honda accord, and the best a 1992 Mustang GT...
I was at a stop light looked over at this guy in an accord and didnt think much of it. As soon as the light turns green he guns it, so i decided to take chase and caught him probably got him by about 6 or 7 cars. Not much to be proud of.
Now the best race of the weekend. It was about 11PM just cruisin my way home and i just so happen to come across this really nice deep blue GT. He had exhaust and gears and i am still completely stock with ram air and what i believe to be a 305.(still havnt confirmed it, but this race makes me think by that slim chance, i might have a 350) anyway we both gun it from 40 he gets a good car and half on me which is what i thought would happen. But by the time we would get to 80 he would stop pulling and i would start gaining ground back:confused: . But shortly after he would hit the brakes, we went through this about three or four times same result every time but hey, you cant win em all. Well that was my fun for the weekend any opinions on what i got under the hood would be appreciated, i know it has 305 heads but i thought if i had a 305 he would have stomped on me a little harder...sorry for the long post its late and im rambling.

You prolly raced the 4-cyl auto accord, because there aint no way in heck a 305 car would beat a 6cyl accord, they 0-60 in 6.5 sec.

How you know the Mustang even had gears? It's easy to make a Mustang sound loud, very good chance your car is a 305 from the sound of the 'races'.

No telling because of the races, there are tons and tons of clapped out fox bodies.

Re: Accord/Stang GT

8th digit reveals it to be a 305...but my car also came stock as a 5spd, didnt the 5spd's come with 220-230hp rating for the 89?

The 230hp 300lbs.ft 305 in 1989 came with a T5 and 3.45:1 gear ration. This was available in the 1LE and had dual catalytic converters.
The single cat 305TPI T5 was rated at 220hp and 290lbs.ft of torque, and they came with 3.08:1 gear ratio in the back.
The auto 305TPI came with 195hp and 295 lbs.ft of torque and came with 2.73:1 gear ratio in the back.
Is your car a dual cat car or a single cat car?
Look at your RPOs and you will get an idea of what you have based on what differential was put in your car.

The 98-02 accord v6 came with 200hp and 195lbs.ft of torque. 0-60 in that car was in 7.9 sec stock and the quarter mile was in 16.1 @ 88mph. This is for the v6 ex accord. Any TPI 305 in good order and with a good driver, including the auto, should be able to handle that.
The 305TPI T5 with the 3.45:1 gearing would run on par with a 350TPI from that time, assuming that both are stock and driver skill is equal across both of them.

Re: Accord/Stang GT

I have looked at my RPOs and still havnt been able to find out what kind of rear axle i got, but i do know that i do have dual cats...however on the freeway going 70 i rest at about 2000 rpms. I thought if i had 3.45s i would be at 2200 going that speed. Another interesting thing is that in my RPO codes i cant find the code for it being a t-5 either...
forgot to mention that in my RPO codes i do have the G80 option which was said to be a posi unit, however i dont know if this meant that i had different gears...

The RPO code for the T5 is MM5. This I think is for the WC Borg Worner t5. G80 RPO is for the limited slip differential. The engine code should be LB9. If you have the L98 cam in your motor, the red line on your tack should be at 5500 rpm. RPO N10 is for the dual cats. RPO KC4 is for the engine oil cooler.
My car came with the 3.42 posi rear end. The 3.45 was not available in 91. I have not payed exact attention as to what RPM my car makes at 70mph, but at 60 mph I am at about 1800 rpm. I have a list off all of the RPO codes some where, but I need to dig it out. Maybe I will pm you when I find it.
