Funny kill on older Mustang Okay, so I let my buddy drive my '84 Toyota Supra (few mods) and I am in my 79 Mercury Grand Marquis (460 V8). We stop for gas and there was an older Mustang GT (82-84?) filling up as well. I gas up and as we get ready to leave the stang revs it up and dumps the clutch. So my buddy takes off after him in the supra and I ease away from the station in my land yacht. My friend in my Supra is slow gaining on him and then we catch a stop light. Supra on the left, Mustang on the right and me behind the supra. The light goes green and 'Stang gets the jump on the supra and slowly pulls on him until about 60 mph. They left me in the dust but I was starting to pull on them once my 460 spooled up enough to do anything. The supra finally passes the Mustang as I am right on the Supra's tail. My buddy get's over and I barrell past them at well over 100 mph (can't be sure cause speedo only reads 85, and my friend in my Supra was doing 105 and still accelerating). I looked over at the Mustang driver and he was totally embarassed. Turns out his girlfriend went to my school and even she made fun of him after my big Gold boat sailed past him that day. Pretty funny, huh? Chris |
LOL!! I would have loved to see the look on his face! ------------------ Karsten 86 IROC-ZZ4... too much to list. |
I tell ya, it was priceless. My car has the fender skirts and everything. Chris |

Oh boy. A "spooled up" 460. Sounds like a recipe for piston/block omelette. I didn't think 460's were made for anything over 4,500. Anyways, good kill. ------------------ No guts, no glory. |
I think he meant that he was waiting for the car to overcome some of its tendency to, uh, not move. It probably takes awhile to gain momentum in that thing, Christ, that car probably weighs 4500lbs. ------------------ '89 Firebird Formula 350 L98, WS6, Red/grey, t-tops, and a 3.27:1 rear K&N, TB bypass, no MAF screens, CAI, full Accel ignition, no cats, Hooker Supercomp shorties, Hooker 3-inch catback ET? 14.19@98.9mph (G-tech) (Corrected for G-tech 'extra' 6mph) Also own '83 Firebird 2.8 2bbl. 155K miles. I used to have a 75 Marquis with a 460 4bbl. The 0-60 was not that great but I had it up to 120mph with the pedal no where near the floor and still picking up speed at a rapid rate. |
Spooled up probably wasn't the best term, but I couldn't think of anything to best describe what was happening. Basically it was getting almost 2.5 tons getting going in the same direction. I didn't even have it floored, because once that speedometer needle disappeared, it really started going like crazy. Chris |
