Grand national Turbos

Sorry to say but Turbo GN's will hand any 350 TPI its butt... I have seen amny a 3rd get run down at the track with a lightly modded GN that is running upper 11's and wins every time in bracket's. He estiamtes roughly 625-650 at the flywheel. He has the full upgrade package including intercooler, turbo, fuel system, headers, and exhaust. Including the price of the car(he bought it new) he says he has roughly 40k into it. Now this was bought brand new by him and it has 2 engines... not bad for 40k. And it is daily driven and gets upwards of 30 MPG with the addition of the turbo boost controllers.

Camaro_hunter_d 08-13-2001 02:15 PM

forgot to mention that there are more than a few GN's running 7-8-9 sec 1/4's...

firbird 08-13-2001 02:36 PM

why is the gn so special? i here all of this stuff about the gn and isnt the same as the turbo trans am? same tranny and engine right? they made almost the same ¼ mile as the gn. i like the gn in all and was thinking of buying one myself but arent they the same as TTA's?

D.DASTURDLEE 08-13-2001 02:38 PM

This guy around my way has a black one that say something like 440HP4U. Im guessing his HP went up over the years but he doesnt want to buy new tags.

I agree with you for the most part, but the point of this post was what? To start an arguement? It is pretty much accepted that GNs are fast and TPI is a good system with a few flaws. I'm curious why you bothered to make this post. Perhaps you should have said a TT Supra will hand any ... It's still pointless. I vote that this post get locked before we end up with another pointless arguement like the previous "Anyone raced a twin turbo supraa post."

I don't see any flame here.

We are all aware that Turbo 6's in RWD GM cars are fast. We also all realize that stock against stock, and modified to the same extent, the Turbo cars are faster than 90% of the F Bodies out there.

So...yes I think I can swallow my pride and stand up and say my car is slow by comparison.

.02 worth.

I myself was wondering where this was going, no offense. Not that i disagree, the GN is a way cool car, and so is the TTA. One advantage the GN has though is there are like 10 times as many of them, therefore easier to get your hands on and they have less of a "collector" thing going. Oh well, I'm just rambling senselessly I'll cut it out.

See this a gay *** topic.... comparic forced induction to a non forced induction..... someone lock this $HIT!!

TonyC 08-15-2001 09:29 PM

I could buy a $3000 Camaro, Put a $20,000 Engine in it with a $4000 tranny and a $4000 rear end with a $5000 suspension set up and run 9's all day, for about $14,000 less than what he payed.

Good topic man....

MikeZ28 08-17-2001 11:19 AM

ill agree on this one that the Gn are fast i raced one and he just kept pulling away from me everytime we hit a stop sign and get on it he kept pulling away. there are quick and i got my AS$ handed to me.

This thread is a pointless as saying that Corvettes Z06's are fast. We all know that. Write something different like how you have a friend with Big Block Chevette.

Corvette ZO6's are state of the art technology GN's are 15 years old!

FATZ_86er 08-19-2001 10:36 PM

vettes also dont look like some one sh!t in a box and marked it GN

giovanhalen 08-19-2001 10:38 PM

He said it wins all day at the brackets, but having the fastest car doesn't win bracket races. What track was that? Little old I-57 dragway? A 1/8 mile track with not many cars there. Bring it up to gateway the 2nd of september for big bucks and lets see any grand national win. Don't think i ever saw an inconsistent GN win big bucks bracket race.

JJ 08-19-2001 11:14 PM

650+ at the crank = faster than high 11's unless he is getting out of it to not break out. Not going to win a lot of brackets always having to get out of it I would think. Maybe he is having traction problems, certainly would not be conducive to consistency required for bracket winning.
