3000gt Vs 2002 Ss

one of my camaro buds is going to race this dirt bag with a 3000GT VR4 Twin Turbo....it is completly stock so i think it has about 320HP. My friends SS is also stock...and both cars are stick...Who do you think will win?

IROCZTWENTYGR8 04-07-2002 04:09 AM

LS1.

What the **** does this have to do with thirdgens?

PimpCamaroRS 04-07-2002 05:06 AM

b/c he is a fellow camaro enthusiest and is my friend! He does not know tho b/c the 3000GT twin turbo runs like a 13.4 1/4 mile and SS's run like high 13's. any one know anything about 3000GT's?

JAY87GTA 04-07-2002 09:08 AM

Just be sure they run the full 1/4, so the SS has time to run him down. The 3000gt really gets moving good but they don't do as well on the top end, when they're stock anyway. Give the SS the full 1/4 or maybe a little more and he'll go past. Good Luck

This race will be a drivers race. If your friend gets a bad launch he's going to have to play catch up with the Vr4. If he gets a good launch he'll still be playing catch up but once that AWD starts to slow down the car he should have no trouble passing him up. I've seen two of these races go down. One was a 98 SS A4 bone stock vs.a a bone stock 3000GT vr4 and the vr4 walked him by about a car in the 1/4. I also saw a stock 01' SS M6 run the same 3000GT and both cars were still stock. This time the SS not only jumped him off the line and kept even with him but also ended up beating him by 4 cars or so in the 1/4. So it's more of a drivers race than anything. Let us know what happens.

I'd say this would be a driver's race.

BadBowtie88 04-07-2002 11:43 AM

I agree, drivers race. Just make sure he doesn't lose his cool and blow his tires off even worse when the VR-4 jumps out of the whole. My friend has a 91' Dodge Stealth TT, same thing different badges, and he launches his @ 4000rpm and it sticks. But, it does fall off after that so it will be close.

2002 SS camaro does not run high 13's stock. With a good driver and the spare removed, it would be a lot better than that. They can (potentially) break into the 12's depending on where you are and how good you can drive. This is a drivers race.

Ian_F 04-07-2002 10:27 PM

That is going to be a close race. The 3000 gt can launch hard w/out loss of traction due to it's all wheel drive system. It also has two turbochargers that are going to be helping out big time in the higher RPM's. However the LS1 is an amazing engine with tons of power and a broad, flat torque curve. If the Camaro gets a good launch, it should be able to keep pace at least. It really depends totally on the drivers this time. the machines are fairly even.

With equal drivers I would give the edge to the LS1.

85transamtpi 04-09-2002 12:41 PM

Hmm,
Very close race. I agree that it is a drivers race. I say the 3000GT VR4 would have to sidestep the clutch at about 4500rpm or so and launch VERY hard for the race to be even. The Camaro on the other hand would have to ride the clutch off the line keeping traction, something not easy to do. The LS1 has the advantage once moving. I guess the winner is the person who beats on their car the most.

Unless the 300GT driver is a really good driver and really knows how to pull a good AWD launch, I don't think he'll have much trouble. The reason I say that is because a 3Kgt is a heavy car, around 3800 lbs without driver. I don't know what the current model camaro weighs in at, but its gotta be at least 3-400#s less. Reason #2 is while the GT can put its power to the ground fast with the AWD, its at-the-wheel horsepower will no question be less than that LS1. Remember the thread from a week ago or so that showed a LS1 T/A putting like 305 or so to the tires? If this race takes place at an actual track, I'm gonna bet on about a .3-.5 second difference between the cars. I'm not claiming to know everything, thats just what I think is gonna happen:cool:

(edit: I really need to proofread these after midnight posts)
