HUGE throttle body

I dont remember where it was that I seen it but it was a stock throttle body that the center divider inside, where the airfoil would normaly go, was cut out so that it was one large oval opening. The person then made a new single peice blade to replace the 2 small circles. They claimed that this would flow about the equivalant to a 65mm throttle body. I picked up a spare throttle body on ebay for $20 and IM thinking about doing this to see what it will do. Anyone have any input on this? Good, bad, otherwise....???

excellent :)

after throttle body coolant bypass, that should be next logical step. i spent too much to buy JET airfoil which was obviously just piece made by blind monkey. that's quality.

anyway, your idea sounds simply good. why not to make some mono blades and port crap out from throttle bodies? good fresh idea!

sounds like a good project, I don't have any knowledge of anything like that but I would be interested in what you find out!

Sounds good, but looking at a spare I have here, the IAC needs to have the divider in the middle to work. Without it, it looks as if the IAC would be useless.

rhuarc30 05-18-2002 03:30 PM

I agree, looking at mine, it looks like the divider is part of the function of the IAC. I've seen the monoblade, TPIS makes one, flows like 1800 cfm or something silly like that. You can bore the stock throttle body and make new butterflies for it though. There's been a thread on it, do a search. I think you can go to at least 52MM, maybe a bit more.

PonyKiller87 05-18-2002 03:35 PM

well when I get my spare TB from ebay I will take a look, might beable to find a way to keep the IAC functioning still with the mono blade, either way IM gonna do something to it to make it bigger, and I will try to take pictures along the way and some notes. Ill keep you guys updated

Hey the LS1's have a large monoblade so can't we copy their IAC set up or possible adapt an LS1 TB?
I don't know much about the LS1 so this is just food for thought.

no their design pulses a piston to let air by and ours is like a screw that has steps to open up the air flow

Cause we all know how much your 15 second car's need a 65mm TB>

age 05-19-2002 04:17 AM

hey, come on man... eventhough he might not need one, doesn't mean that we have to knock the guy. I think it's great to see people trying different things.. look at the LT1 intake swap, and siamesing the intake manifold ports.. if you're gonna be sarcastic, then keep it to yourself.

rhuarc30 05-19-2002 03:57 PM

Agree, if the man can get it to work :hail: if not it's still :hail: for trying. Besides whether or not he need's it, if it works, there will still be a substantial cool factor due to him doing it himself, and having something nobody else has done.

PonyKiller87 05-19-2002 07:08 PM

yeah, like I said its for a SPARE tb so if it does work, and I do actualy put it on, its just to see what it will do, Im not trying to tell everyone its some mirracle upgrade or anything.

And no offense but my car will pull way better than a 15.

The stock throttle body flows about 680cfm dry which is about
the same as an 800cfm carburator (wet). This is far more than our
TPI engines can use.

Jim85IROC 05-21-2002 08:19 AM

I believe arizona speed and marine has a monoblade unit that flows well over 1300 cfm.

Swapmaster 05-21-2002 08:30 AM

1300cfm will feed two, count them two, 350 engines
spinning at 6,000rpm.

Or one 350 spinning at 6000 rpm and running 14 lbs of boost... :D
