Project Stealth Ram AFR has begun - Updated peiodically

Well folks I've finally got everything together. Here will be my setup on my 355 small block:

-Holley Stealth Ram Intake
-AFR 195cc heads milled to 64cc chambers
-Comp cam - 230/236 dur. @.050", .510/.520 lift, 110 lobe sep

I will be keeping the stock throttle body and I will use 24# injectors. I will also be reprogramming the prom. Behind the engine will be my current 700R4 trans with a 2200 stall speed converter, and a 3.42 posi rear end. I've also already installed a Spohn torque arm, Spohn lower control arms, and control arm relocation brackets to put the power on the ground.

I am hoping to run in the mid-low 12 second range with this setup and some tuning. I will be updating this post as my work progresses. Finally we'll know what kind of real power this Stealth Ram can make. Any opinions/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

You're a copy cat dude! Just kidding...

Mine is a 4bolt 355, forged rotating assy 10.7:1...everything being the exact same pretty much cept I have a lingenfelter 58mm tb, longtubes, svo 30#s, and 3.73s. Here is a picture...it's still on the stand. I hope to run mid to low 11s or high 10s using a 150 shot. Oh, my cam is hyd roller 224/244 110 .560/.560 and crane golds. I think you'll have the times you want with that combo!

Ace 08-30-2002 03:14 PM

Looks like a good combination. Is there a reason your sticking with the stock TB? that might choke it down a bit...

what ratio of rockers are you using?

im going to be trying the same setup (maybe a bit bigger cam).. but almost exact to what your doing... keep us informed :)

CamaroX84 08-30-2002 03:27 PM

Well, I'm sticking with the stock tb for now for two reasons. 1. I'm short on cash enough as it is already, and 2. From what I've heard the stock one isn't really a restriction. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but don't they use a 48mm tb on the big ram jet motors? Also, I'm using 1.5 rockers, as if I go too much more I run into the issue of valve/piston clearance, since my block was zero-decked. Besides, the .510/.520 lift should be sufficient enough. Thanks.

Ace 08-30-2002 03:40 PM

id like to know about the TB as well... i have an air foil on mine so it flows a touch better... id like not to replace it if I dont have to as it costs more then the entire stealth ram.. hows is that freaking possible? :)

that cam should be awesome for your setup... did you work the heads at all or are the right outta the box?

Gta-Paladin 08-30-2002 05:24 PM

Do we think the stealth ram can support such low et passes? and when does it start to be choked? 800hp ? 900?

rezinn 08-30-2002 05:45 PM

I'm sure the stealth ram can easily support 10s since I've seen people with aftermarket LTRs running 9s. It starts to choke at about 672.56 horsepower.

Gta-Paladin 08-30-2002 05:46 PM

what is one to do for a setup with more horsepower is it strictly sheet metal intakes?

bbunting 08-30-2002 08:55 PM

rezinn-why does the Stealth Ram choke at 672 HP? Is that NA HP?

JAY87GTA 08-31-2002 12:48 AM

Hopefully by November I'll have chassis dyno numbers for a 383 with AFR 190's and a Comp 220/230 w/ .544 lift. Dyno 2000 predicts around 525, so we'll see.

JMatlock88 08-31-2002 12:52 AM

Yep, I'll have rear wheel dynos by Oct 21st as well....

Actually what he ment was 674.231 HP. And of course that's not N/A. It's /N/A/W/S HP! :p

Sorry for not updating. The project is on hold right now over the long Labor Day weekend. I found out I won't be able to have my cam degreed until Sunday, so I'll probably start tearing the motor down on Wednesday. Thanks.

CamaroX84 09-07-2002 12:11 AM

Update:
I've got almost everything torn down and disconnected. I just need to yank the heads and the cam. The cam will be put in and degreed on Sunday, and I will also bolt on the new heads and intake. Hopefully if I have time I'll be able to connected the fuel rails too. Then between Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday I will do the final bolt-ons, and do a quick PROM burn for the initial startup. I plan on cutting all me VE tables by 25% in the idle range, and leaving everything else the way it is. Hopefully if all goes well I will be starting this bad boy up on Wednesday. I'll keep you posted. Thanks.

Well, things haven't gone as fast as I'd like them to. The old intake, heads, and cam are all the way off. The new cam is in. I just have to get it degreed. I bought the degree kit and the piston stop so I could do it with the heads off. My problem is the instructions are for doing it with the heads on. Does anyone know what is different in the procedure for using the piston stop?? Thanks.

Well I can tell you that with forced induction, the Stealth Ram will support over 746 crank HP, or 649 RWHP@12lbs. boost-no NOS.
:D
