Vader | 02-23-2005 07:58 PM | You can decide. The early LT1 sacrificed a wee bit of tourque on the low end, as compared to the L98. The upper RPM ranges were all in favor of the LT1 - by a long shot. The later year LT1s didn't even give up any torque to the L98, and kept on grinding out more power at RPMs than a TPI could ever support.
The bigger differences were the heads, cam. lighter crank and rods, and the intake, of course. And if anyone suggests that an LT1 intake on a 305 is "a waste", remind them that teh same intake was installed on the L99 - a 265-inch version of the LT1. The L99 made more average power than stock LB9s, with 40 fewer cubes. That's like a 305 making more power than a 350 - which of course, can happen. Imagine what a good intake and heads can do with the 40 extra cubes of the 305. |
