Fuel injector retaining clips...
 

While replacing my stock 19 lb injectors with my new 30 lb ones 2 of my retaining clips broke!! I have tried chevy, all of the comercial parts houses and some friends with parts cars. Is there anyone out there that knows where i can get the original c type reataining clip for the top of the injector into the fuel rail??

I'm no TPI guru, but I'm thinking they aren't needed. Once the injectors are in the manifold and the rail is installed and bolted down, those clips are doing nothing.

The part number you seek is 17111267 for the injector retaining clips. They're expensive, GmPartsDirect lists them at $3.34 each before shipping.

the dealership I went to had 1 pack in stock(they sell them it a pack of 5) and it was a little over $7.00

I did get them from a chevy dealer but they said it was not a gm part. Some antique replacement warehouse--pack of 5..$7. the gm parts guy said they were not a replacement part that wears out??

WHatever..i am glad i found them..time to get this iroc z purring again and call out a few mustangs!!

GM originally packaged them in fives. GmPartsDirect often breaks mulitples into singles for pricing.

After some searching, KEM makes replacement fuel injector clips too. The style used in the TPI motors is part number 148-022.

the injector clips are not needed, I am not running them and know a lot of people who are not as well. the clips just make installation of the injectors into the manifold easier. pop the injectors into the fuel rail, set the rail in place, then pull the injectors down all the way into the manifold. they will be right where they need to be.

I've read several people say they aren't necessary and I'll let other people argue that. I got a set just to make myself feel better and here is what I found in my search.

These are all different part numbers for the same clip and prices are current as of 08/09/05:

Borg-Warner #28417 = $1.29 each @ O'Reilly Auto
AC Delco #17111267 = $6.67 each @ GM dealer
GP-Sorensen #800-9417 = $3.99 each @ Auto Zone
Summit #MSD-2110 = $4.88 for 8 @ Summit ($9.00 shipping)

I ended up going with the Borg-Warner clips since they were the cheapest and easiest to get. I could have gone to a bone-yard and scrounged them up but I just don't have the time to do that as much as I'd like.

No clips here. My injectors wont have the provisions for them, plus mine are a tad shorter.

Don't have any clips on mine, only problem i have ever had is when i am pulling the fuel rail and injectors one has popped out and relieved the rail of pressure. Gm put those in for assembly purposes theyre a pia to take out anyway run without um.

I ordered the BW part number - but I think what I really wanted was those small, wire-type spring clips that hold the electrical connector to the injector!
lol!

OH OK, I thought you meant the fuel rail clips.

Actually everyone should be using those as well. I've seen more than one member have an issue and I have a fuel rail/manifold set (both GM) that you can unseat the injector from the rail without the clip. All it takes is not being seated right, or someone to move your injector while working on the car and you've got a fuel leak. Bad idea to advise not using them.

Just a quick update... Anyone looking for these injector clips, they are still available through O'Reily's under the Borg-Warner #28417. They are currently going for $1.39 each. However, I discovered some of the parts guys had trouble finding them because there is a database error. They are erroneously listed as "spark plug retainers." Go figure. Anyway, hope this helps.

You don't need them. The rail is bolted down. The clips were only there to assist assembly at the factory. Most modern systems employ no such clips.

An update to the list above. picked up the clips in an 8 pack from Auto Zone for $0.95. They were in-stock at the local store, contrary to the website. They also had the o-rings for the fuel lines.

you do not need the injector clips. Once the rail is bolted down you have at least 40psi holding them in place. They aren't going anywhere
