Superram to mini ram high RPM combination?

Superram to mini ram change on high RPM combination?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Has anyone changed from a superram to a mini ram on a high rpm combination and how did the change work out? I am very interested in changing from the superram to the mini ram on my car (mods in my sig)but everytime I see a mini ram dynoed it disappoints me.

The latest mini ram combination combination that I watched and tuned on the chassis dyno (buddies car) was a 396 SBC, 200 cc dart head, ZZ-409 cam, 10.5 CR, shorty headers, and misc. small mods. This combination made 345 RWHP and 351 RWTQ numbers and it HP peaked at 5900 RPM and had a very flat torque curve from 3000 RPM to 5000 RPM. I was expecting (hoping) this combination to make more power. My initial thoughts were the cam was too small to take advantage of the high RPM potential of this combination, by the time the intake was coming to life the cam was over its power band. Maybe a bigger cam that pushed the peak power to the 6500 RPM point would have worked better with this engine combination.

The reason for this question is I want to pick up 40 to 50 RWHP on my combination and I believe (hope) the mini ram has the potential to give me that power without any other changes. My 406 has the correct combination of parts to peak at 6200 rpm to 6300 rpm but the superram is holding the peak power back at 5400 RPM.

Has anyone switched between the two intakes on a healthy (high RPM) engine and seen a big gain? I would hate to spend 1200 dollars on a mini ram to see no gain or a power loss.
