Hydrolocked, now has high idle/surging

Well i was going to go drag racing on my paid vacation last week, but i didnt want to break anything on my car so i decided to go camping instead.

well, i went camping and while i was camping me and my buddies decided to drive to a store to buy some tubes to float down the river, so i turn down a ranch road (9miles east of johnson city) and came up to a low water crossing that had 5" of water floating across it (water was only like 10ft wide) so i go about 10mph idleing through it and my motor hydrolocked right before i made it to the other side.

well, got the car towed back to austin and had the spark plugs taken out, replaced and a new radiator put into my car because it was leaking/over heating.

well i went to go pick up my car and it was idling @ 1500rpm.... turned the car off, and then back on a couple times, but then it was having a noticeable surge from 1500-1800rpm @ idle

what do yall think it is? im guessing the TPS and/or MAP sensor, but then again i saw water marks all over the valve covers and around inside the engine compartment, so water could of gotten all over the dizzy as well

How high was the water???

I don't think you can hydrolock the car thrugh the air cleaner, unless you are dumping water through it. So, the water must have gone through somewhere else. The distributor is possible... I would go through the electrical system checking everything. Also, change the oil. I would.

how the hell do you hydrolock in 5" of water?!?!?! well anyway, FIRST, change that oil immediately!! if it hydrolocked, water WILL be in the oil.. if it were me, i would change it twice.. change once, drive around a bit(3 miles maybe) then change again..

then check ALL the electronics and what not.. oh and next time, crawl through the water.. you dont have a sky high mud bogger, you have a camaro thats low to the ground..

car hydrolocked, then was towed 70 miles back to austin, had the plugs pulled out, cranked over and water drained out of cylinders, new plugs put in, oil changed, new radiator, new thermostat, new IAC (iac was stuck shut, causing idle to be 1500+)

Sounds like more than 5" of water to me. That would barely get the tires wet. That must have been a hell of a puddle yo. We're trying to help you, but this doesn't seem right at all. I've driven through standing water before, engines just don't hydrolock from being wet. If that was the case everytime you hosed off your engine bay or something, we'd all be getting screwed. I suspect something else happened, maybe a coincidence, but 5" of water, no way.

well i removed those plastic thingys that go under the air filters because they were about to fall off, so the water hit the air dam underneath the car and continued to travel straight up directly to the air filters and into the motor

turned out to be the IAC was stuck open...

replaced the radiator, thermostat, hoses, IAC, and spark plugs.... runs good as new again!
