1990 113 vette heads I just bought a pair of aluminum 1990 vette heads casting 113..my ? is whats the easiest and more cost effective way of making them fit on my 89 B2L 350 tpi trans am. |
Re: 1990 113 vette heads You just have to elongate the center 2 holes on the stock lower intake. Bolt on and enjoy the weight savings. |

Re: 1990 113 vette heads By elongate you mean get them bigger bolts or am I wrong |

By elongate you mean Elongate verb 1.to draw out to greater length; lengthen; extend. verb 2.to increase in length. in other words Slot the holes in the intake http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u...e/Image1-2.jpg |

Re: 1990 113 vette heads Can anybody make the center bolts bigger for me as described on post #6 I don't have the time to do it myself right now |
Re: 1990 113 vette heads it doesn't take that long with a die grinder. It would cast you $25 each way to ship someone the manifold. |
Re: 1990 113 vette heads There's more to it than just slotting the center 4 holes. The Corvette heads do not have the central EGR passage in them like the stock iron f-body heads do. You'll need to hook up the external EGR setup like the Corvettes do, which means using either a stock Corvette TPI intake, or getting an aftermarket Edelbrock TPI intake manifold. The Edelbrock manifold also has the correct bolt holes for the center bolts. You'll also need to modify your headers for the external EGR setup. I'm not sure if stock exhaust manifolds will work. I know the Corvette ones will not fit as they're center dump. Also, those heads are missing one bolt hole for the f-body serpentine accessory setup, so you'll need to drill and tap a hole so you can bolt the accessories on. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/atta...s-dcp_0163.jpg https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/atta...s-dcp_0162.jpg Those pics are how I did it when I used Corvette heads back in 2001. |
Re: 1990 113 vette heads also need new spark plugs |

Re: 1990 113 vette heads if i remember correctly it has to do with the actual thread, on the spark pug itself. check out autozone, http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par...mString=search i would also think we would need(better*) spark plugs to accommodate the advance timing in the BIN with aluminum heads. this im yet to research as to which plug to get. |
Re: 1990 113 vette heads you egr wont work with 113 heads. you better off getting a 88-91 vette tpi lower base manifold and run a tube from your exhaust manifold then waste time elongating holes. Then its still smog legal. Others are right about plugs vette uses long reach plugs. |

Thanks for the links and the info I thought it would be more than just the bolt holes on that note I have slp headers will that affect any thing you have mentioned before dealing with egr And yes, the spark plugs are different between iron heads and aluminum heads. |

Nope, its actually better to have headers. You'll need to add a tube to the #8 header primary tube like in my pictures. And yes, the spark plugs are different between iron heads and aluminum heads. |

Yeah looks like I'm going to have to do what you did in your pics how did you manage to do it or is there a kit for that? Dyno Don added the tube on the #8 primary and we mocked it up to fit the EGR port on the intake manifold. |
Re: 1990 113 vette heads also arent the heads d-port style.... meaning you need special headers for them to fit...i could be wrong.. |

We just went to the junkyard and picked up a V6 EGR pipe and modified it to fit. The V6 pipes are extra long with room to flex. Look around at any GM V6, not just f-bodies. Dyno Don added the tube on the #8 primary and we mocked it up to fit the EGR port on the intake manifold. |
Re: 1990 113 vette heads what headers did you use? kevin |
Re: 1990 113 vette heads How long should the bolt hole be made on the coevettu heads |
Re: 1990 113 vette heads The same depth as the other holes ,, There is plenty of materiel just don't drill into the coolant crossover passage. |
Re: 1990 113 vette heads so is it safe to make the hole as deep as the bolt i will have a local machine shop d o it for me |
Re: 1990 113 vette heads IIRC that is the location of the torx head stud. You will need to mark the hole location if your going to have someone else drill and tap the hole. You can set the head on your engine and bolt the serpentine bracket to the block and other cylinder head hole and use a centering punch to mark the hole location. |
Re: 1990 113 vette heads Would an actual corvette egr pipe that goes into the no.8 cylinder exhaust manifold work if i get the pipe itself i know i still would need some modification to make it work. I found a guy near me that parts out corvettes and if it can work i can purchase it |
Re: 1990 113 vette heads Hey i know the heads are aluminum and the oem were cast iron. The back of the wiring harness has for both side of the heads rear ground wires how do you connect them to make them ground same as oem or find a ground source |
Re: 1990 113 vette heads Grounds just use a bolt hole on the new heads. It all works the same |
