Oil leak by oil pan

I just noticed a brand new oil leak. The only one I have. It is pooling in the garage between the oil pan and I think tranny? Right at the rear of the oil pan. Is this the oil pan gasket? It's a pretty sizeable leak and I'm down half a quart already.

I would say so. But to be 100% post a picture

I imagine after work tomorrow just taking it to my trusty mechanic because I am physically dead lol. http://imgur.com/NxZisUa

Hard to get a good shot but the oil is right under where the oil pan stops towards the rear end

It's probably the sump gasket, in the area near the rear main bearing.

You really need to get right under the car at that point so you can look up the gap between the rear of the sump and the transmission.

You can try checking the oil pan bolts to see if they have come loose. Do Not overtighten. Overtightening can warp what you're trying to seal up and it will never seal, or you can even snap off a bolt.
If the leak slows down then that is probably the issue.
Otherwise it may be the rear main seal and that would be much more involved to repair.

You may want to run your hand behind the valve covers in rear by the firewall just to make it isn't running down the back.

Check the oil pressure sending unit.

Get a torch and have s look at the rear of the sump. See if the gasket is seated properly.

Well my usually trusted shop called today and said it has a small rear main leak but the real issue is it is leaking coolant. I knew the intake gaskets were leaking but they also told me my water pump was leaking. I told him it leaks a good amount of oil but they didn't think so. They said oil sump gasket is fine. And so the repair is going to be pretty pricy..

So if you want something done right you do it yourself.
Great shop but I think they're wrong. They had it two days and declared it was coolant leaking down the back of my engine causing it to look like oil. Oil lubricates water does not. They said my upper intake gasket was bad which it is. Coolant does leak onto the valve cover. But small amount. I was just going to live with it. And my water pump had a bent pully that they'd fixed but declared was leaking.

So I jacked her up and got under it today and tightened my oil pan drain. I also cleaned off the pan to look for leaks. I idled it for 10 minutes at op temperature and no leaks. Drove it for a hour and took it home. No leaks. And hasn't dripped all night.

IM really sure it was the drain plug because dirty coolant may look like my syn blend Valvoline. But it didn't feel like water..

I guess we will see!

So finally I found it. I drove on the interstate for a while and pulled over and saw coolant dripping under my car. Took it home and as soon as it shut off it spit coolant everywhere. The upper intake gasket is about to blow so I'm taking it to a mechanic because I have no time or patience right now lol
