odd and random code 44 ok, my 86 MAF car runs well , mostly. no CEL and drives and behaves normally , but lately i have been geting a code 44 lean condition. ill be driving along and feel a "stumble " and the light will come on . 44 is the only code stored too. its an intermittant code because it will go off and on . during the drive. and having followed the trouble tree in my FSM . everything checks out. no FPR issues. proper fuel pressure. no vaccum leaks . (it idles at 17 inches). AND no matter how many times i set the minimum idle air and TPS. (as per FSM). i cannot get it to stay idling at 750 in drive , all will be well at first but eventually after several days the idle speed will be back around 1500 RPM. all wiring, sensors and relays are proper, and new correct parts . it has the usual 7165 ECM and the PROM i got from brian last year. damn , im stumped !! any one with any ideas ? |
Re: odd and random code 44 I'd check the o2 curcuit. http://chevythunder.com/o2_sensor_code_44.htm Beyond that...what injectors do you have? Are they new/newish? |

I wouldn't just condemn the sensor. I'd suspect the circuit as a whole. |
Re: odd and random code 44 Code 44 is a real PITA, I fought it for months, replaced my egr and it went away for a couple months, then it came back and ended up being a vacuum leak at the throttle body. Check for vacuum leaks first things first, that also ties into you not being able to achieve the desired idle. |

i was thinking that too . until i put a vaccum gauge on it , idle its 17 inches. no way it could be that high with a vaccum leak ??? and my EGR valve is new as well. so ?? |
