87 Tpi horsepower expectations? I have an 88 Camaro that was originally a v6. The previous owner swapped a 5.7 Tpi from an 87 firebird. I took off all of the Tpi stuff and put an Edelbrock performer intake, Edelbrock 600 carb, hei distributor and an adj fpr. I plan on getting the summit brand headers for it and I already ordered the dynomax dual 2 1/4 exhaust for it with an x pipe and going to run cut outs. What horsepower am I looking at? Everything else is stock. Also it's a 5 speed if that makes a difference in rwhp. I have a 5.3LS motor that I'm going to build over the next 5 years or so, just want to enjoy the motor that's in it for now since it seems like a healthy motor. So any ideas? |
Re: 87 Tpi horsepower expectations? Maybe 245-260 whp depending on conditions |
Re: 87 Tpi horsepower expectations? With the minimal gains from those headers and a catback after the negatives from removing all the TPI stuff I would guess right around the stock TPI levels |
Re: 87 Tpi horsepower expectations? Carb intake will make more power than tpi imo. It should pull higher and fuel cooling effect from atomization should boost some. Performer rpm may be better but then again stock heads arent that good |
Re: 87 Tpi horsepower expectations? In not cheering on swapping TPI over to carb. I've done it and regretted it. In saying that my friend had an 89 TPI 350 and it ran 14.4s. A 650 Holley and edelbrock intake on it and nothing else put it in 13.8s in the 1/4. It freed it up more air. Engine is an air pump and more air more power. I think a stock L98 with good exhaust and induction whether it be stealth ram or carb can make 270+ HP. As a crate engine GM rated them at 285 HP once. |
