383 stroker kit

Who makes the best kits for 350 TPI's wanting to go to 383? I'm wanting to go 383, but still be TPI. Does it matter what brand or anything, kinda new to this stuff. I just want more POWER!!!:burnout:

89blackGTA 04-02-2002 01:54 PM

Are you wanting to go 383 on a car other than your 86 IROC? If you go from a 305 to a 383 you would have to do some grinding to get that big of a crank in there.

eatmydust 04-02-2002 02:02 PM

Oh, no no no! I just bout a 350 TPI off a friend, I think its an 89. I figure may need rebuild, so figure may as well rebuild into a 383, then swap in my 86 IROC.

tpi_roc 04-02-2002 02:43 PM

If it was a 305 it would NEVER be a 383 :p

it would be a 335 i believe

eatmydust 04-02-2002 03:14 PM

Ok..... so any good companies to go with for 383 stroker kit?

tpi_roc 04-02-2002 03:15 PM

Eagle

If you're going to blow/spray get something with forged pistons

if not I'd say build your own kit

Get a scat 9000 crank, say some eagle I-beams, and some KB hypers or something

eatmydust 04-02-2002 03:53 PM

Well there is a place Flatlander Racing (www.flatlanderracing.com) that has quite a few stroker kits. I just don't know what to go with. There are so many diff types of cranks, rods and pistons. I dunno what to go with. I plan on getting a Vortec SC and spray someday, if that helps with a suggestion.

tpi_roc 04-02-2002 03:54 PM

if super charged you want to forge everything

Forged pistons, forged crank, and some fairly serious rods

I personally have never found a kit that included EVERYTHING i wanted, so I buy individual short block parts.

eatmydust 04-02-2002 04:09 PM

Ok, well thanx for the info. May wanna check them out, have a big array of stuff.
Thanx again :D

You can go to Jegs or Summit and get more in their kits for the same price as this websites kits. Eagle kits come with bearings rings, flexplate, balancer. These kits your looking at online dont include these, it extra...just thought id point that out to you

eatmydust 04-02-2002 04:56 PM

Hmm... I didn't realize that. Are these Eagle kits on summit or jegs websites? Or do they have their own site add? Thanks for bringing that up.

i put my 406 rotating assm. together for pretty cheap

Forged Eagle SIR I beams. ebay $230
Forged crank comp products $400
SRP forged pistons comp products $450
JE rings $95

that is $1175 should be a pretty good amount cheaper for a 383.

Gee....I guess so. I thought I was the only one who wanted to do SC and spray.

i recently purchased a kit from powerhouse.

www.enginekits.com

I bought the 383 SK-1 or something like that.

eatmydust 04-03-2002 12:59 PM

I noticed on most or all of the kits it has I and H beam rods. What is the diff between the two? I know i'm gonna have to get forged everything, but is one type better than the other?

GofasterFirebird 04-04-2002 07:27 AM

Well, as far as inexpensive rods (400 or less)I think the H beams are considered stronger. But that strength comes at ~100 grams a rod. That was too much for me.

I question that H beams are stronger when I see Oliver rods ($850 plus) that have an I beam design. Those are supposed to be some of the best rods you can buy. But still other very good companies run high priced H beams that probably don't weigh what the inexpensive H beams do??

Does anyone know what Nascars run???

bobs89irocz 04-04-2002 08:14 PM

there are several ways to get a 383 and still have tpi, Look im my sig, if you have any questions e-mail me.

CHRISMAN2000 04-05-2002 09:23 PM

Crower and callies make some of these best parts around.
If your willing to spend it I'd go with forged billitt aluminum.
Its strong plus is aluminum so it acts like a shock absorber.

Synapsis 04-06-2002 04:24 AM

bobs89irocz - Do you have any dyno figures on your 386? I was considering building a 383 with a Miniram to get a torque/hp balance, just curious to see how yours came out.

bobs89irocz 04-06-2002 06:20 PM

here are the numbers
348 rwhp
447 ft.lbs

I was on a rainy humide day with ****TY heads and cam. Once i get the aft 220cc heads and custom cam im hopping to get about 400 rwhp and 500 ft/lbs. The car has alot more balls then what is in the #'s i dont drive it much but when i do i have ALOT of fun.

Der91Z 04-06-2002 06:47 PM

I got my 383 kit from http://www.speedomotive.com
they helped me pick everything for my application. Go to there site and get the number and give'em a call. Prices aren't bad either.
