gears question

I have the 2.77 posi-rearend in my 88 Iroc, and I was told this was a BW unit:confused: , weren't BW's 3.27's? Also I was told switching it to a 3.42 would be hard if not impossible. Can anyone help me out and shed some light here? Thanks.

Common factory 9 bolt borg warner ratios were 2.77, 3.27 and 3.45. Uncommon ratios were 3.08, 3.70 & 3.73. Ratios that are offered at www.9bolt.com are 3.23, 3.45, 3.73 and 4.10.

Switching to a 3.45 ratio is easy. It requires a series 3 posi carrier, a 3.45 gear set and an installation kit. Package price is 785 +s&h. More information is available at www.9bolt.com

Thanks for the info. Gonna have to wait on a gear swap though, 800 bucks is a little out of my price range:( .

How does the BW rear compare to the 10 bolt (mostly in terms of strength and duarability)?
