i was wondering if it is normal for a rearend to whine when it is new. the guy says it does it b/c its race ready. is this true or is this guy full of it. thanks brad

Race gears tend to whine. Race gears aren't a good idea for extended street use.

There's no such thing a setting up street gears "race-ready".

What kind of whining are you getting and where is it coming from? I just rebuilt my rear and when it is on jack stands running in the air without wheels, I get this whining that starts and starts to get pretty loud. It starts happening at 35-54 and gets louder up to 60MPH.

Its like a whirring metal-on-metal sound. In my case, I believe its bearing sounds because my gears were not changed. I'm actually wondering what my sound is and if I possibly did something wrong!

the richmond gears I put in initally wined around 50 MPH but after a few k miles they are silent. The reputable shop I had do the install said that richmond gears always do that.
